Is a PC IDE DVD internal writer the same as a Mac IDE Writer?

As long as the IDE interface (G4 MDD) is correct is there any difference?

Generally these are stock standard items. The day of the proprietary
(remember NuBus?) is long gone.

After Googling for a bit, these drives to seem to vary a lot in price. Presumably you get what you pay for, yes?

That would be my expectation. I think you would be paying for more RAM buffer, which makes for fewer coasters.

G4… I would be careful picking your IDE interface here. Something as old as a G4’s IDE interface may not be up to handling the new IDE specs. Find a dealer who can verify that the drive they sell will work with a G4, then shop price on that model drive elsewhere.
