I almost left Reddit because of TRP - although I’ve never had any personal interaction with them (thank god!), I really couldn’t see staying on a site that had so much hatred for me. Eventually I came to see them as a fringe group…seeing a lot of other people, guys especially, reject their toxic thinking was very helpful.
I can see how people end up there, though. I have a friend who has not had a lot of luck dating. He had one GF who cheated on him and it made him very, very bitter. He started falling into thought patterns like “All women want guys who are rich” and “All women will leave you if someone better comes along.” I think having friends (especially female friends) to counteract that and remind him that you can’t generalize like that helped him avoid that path, but it was a good year, year and a half, before he fully got over it. If he had not had those friendships and had stumbled on TRP during that time, I can see how it would have drawn him in.
