Hi Todd,

With my photographers hat on this is really interesting, perhaps time to update my own site. Also integrates with Lightroom which is cool.

Something to offer photographers who wish a website, no more slideshow pro or simpleviewer, hooray.

Very nice concept - reminds me a bit of SquareSpace.
I checked out their users forum and it confirmed my suspicion that the image load times are slow.
I’m sure it will be ironed out in future releases.

pff… slow… yep! very very very slow… no… nice try, but i depend on my pulse pro for the moment, doesn;t look this slick, but at least works always! basic and all. i want to follow it though. because it does look so slick.

For what I understood, they offer a solution for high res retina and scalable images. Slow, how heavy are those images? How fast is their server? Difficult to judge without measure instruments.

Well, you can install it on your server, and that’s as fast as you pay for.

 i went through the fora as well, someone complained about speed. Images 2000x3000 pix. Well, what can one say…

But the app is still in beta, and free. Incredible.

Their examples seem fine, load fairly quickly for me. Like anything if a slow broadband has to deal with super large image files…

I haven’t noticed any catches; free (at the moment), use your own server, nice templates and option to create your own, responsive, did I mention free.
Ok its in beta but looks as if the developers are on the ball.

Hi

Shame, this will only work if your hosting company supports loopback.

Something of a catch then :frowning:

What does this mean, loopback? Iooked it up, but could not figure it out what it really means or what can be done with it.

Hi

This is the reply I got from my hosting company:

'If your script attempts to make an HTTP connection to a URL on the same server then that will fail. This is because loopback connections like that are blocked on our servers because they can be exploited by attackers.

Best practise would be to not use a loopback connection to access a file on the same domain, and instead use a local include. If it isn’t possible to update the script in that way then it would need to be hosted on a VPS or dedicated server rather than our shared hosting platform. You would then have full control over firewall configuration and could choose to allow HTTP loopback connections.’

I hope it makes sense. From what I have seen on Koken support site, is that if your hosting provider does not support loopback on shared servers, they say change provider. Not much of an answer.

And from what I’ve heard most hosts will have loopback disabled by default and they will be unlikely to change it. That’s a pretty big caveat.

I’ve just fired off a reply to Koken about the situation and why we, as users, have to change providers, when the problem is there’s.

It is not so much a problem as a security setting. If you were the only site on the server then you would be free to do what you like.

Much more likely is that you are one of possibly thousands of sites on your server and enabling Loopback opens that server up to be vulnerable. Do you want to be responsible for bringing down potentially a thousand sites?

I wouldn’t!

Yes maybe Koken can use another method to achieve the same aim that is not vulnerable to hacking - it is in beta after all.

One of my sites runs on a webhost that claims that all their sites run in a sandbox. Is that preventing the problem?

But my question, what does loopback do? Has KOKEN some kind of control over builds of their app this way?

No idea what loopback is but it installed without difficulty for me:

I have a reseller account with Vidahost.
