Live Web Widget with Freeway?

Hello all,

I am a newbie, and am learning to work with Freeway Pro.

With iWeb, it’s easy to add live content from other websites — like videos, stock tickers, and news headlines — directly into your web pages - WYSIWYG.

A subscribe form, a Youtube Video, a Google map,… added via an html-code is live on your editing page, in Iweb.

But in Freeway Pro you only can see this kind of content in the preview?

That is a little bit frustrating, for this is not WYSIWYG… especially when you want to get the layout right.

Is there an action to solve this problem?

Thanks,
Kindly,
Steven

Hi,
sadly not. All the content types you mention would be inserted by some form of Action, and currently Freeway does not support previews in Actions. So, yes, a leap of faith is required on your part.

The reason for this is because Freeway’s design environment doesn’t
work ‘in’ HTML, instead generating HTML on demand from the page
arrangements you make.

The downside of this is that custom code and browser plugin content
isn’t shown ‘live’.

The upside of this is that your layout efforts aren’t restricted by
what’s possible moment-to-moment in HTML.

In Freeway, you use a rich, high-level design environment and output
HTML from your layouts to reproduce your designs at any point as you
go along. This is similar to the way that vector drawing and DTP
applications work.

Depending on how you prefer to work, you may find this to be too
restrictive, or you may find that previewing is fine once you get
used to the rather different workflow. Or you may fall somewhere
between the two camps. But do give it time; there’s a lot that
Freeway’s approach allows that is simply impossible in an HTML-bound
‘design’ environment.
