Looking for new provider

I have my web site hosted with Little Oak and they have been down all day because of a DOS attack on them according to their web site.

How does one protect from these kinds of things happen?

This is becoming unacceptable and I am starting to think seriously about changing who I have hosting with.

Any recommendations who is good or bad would help me make a decision about changing.

Thanks
Phil

CloudFlare is a good option. They stand in front of your site and proxy-cache it, and they have a lot of people dedicated to mitigating DDOS attacks. It’s free for basic service, and it really does help. Completely transparent to your server or site, all you do is sign up and modify your DNS settings.

How easy it is to change over from one provider to another?

Will I have to rebuild web sites again or just upload them. Or is there an even simpler way that would work?

I ask because I have only changed one site over to Freeway since I bought it. The others were planned to be done later this year when the time to refresh them came around.

Well, CloudFlare doesn’t do hosting. They stand in front of your regular host (you don’t have to move) and cache your site. All you have to change is your DSN settings. Sign up at CloudFlare, and they’ll walk you through the steps. Of course, they won’t be able to fill their cache with your site until your current host starts responding again. But that’s something you would have to wait on anyway if they are buried under DDOS.

Once CloudFlare captures a snapshot of your site, all future requests will come through CloudFlare’s edge cache servers, and you won’t be as dependent on your current host for anything except updates.
