Macaw

Those of you who’ve had an early go with Macaw do you feel it’s worth pre-ordering for $50 less ($129) or is it still too incomplete to consider buying just yet?

At this moment, I would say that it’s not worth it. Like Walter pointed out in another thread, Macaw should still be in alpha right now, not beta. Lots of bugs, and it does not have the necessary functionality to even consider creating an entire page without hand-coding the finishing touches.

However, the core works well, so the future for Macaw looks bright. I’m just no sure how far off that future is.

If you have the $$$, and could see yourself using a tool like this, I would say go ahead. A savings of $50 is pretty huge. However, if you are sitting on the fence, I’d recommend staying there for the time being until the product has time to mature.

I have been testing it out a lot recently and yep it sure has a lot of bugs!!! the grid, snap point and break points have different bugs depending on which mac I try it out on. At present there is no table construction at all, No way to introduce freeway action like content so its not as if third party developers can expand it functionality yet, although I was told that is on the list and you cant create anything like graphics within the system so you will need to construct all you imagery outside the application. The good points are they are going to launch a pc version at the same time as the mac and if they can iron out some of the bugs and diminish some of the omissions then this app will be successful.

Is it worth to buy yet:
Then it depends… if you want to create a site with it or just muck about…
if its the former and don’t now how to hand code then in my opinion then probably no.
If its the later then probably yes.
