malfunction Action hide-show layer in Expression Engine

Hi

I wanted to report that the action hide-show layer does not work when in a page that must work with EE.
I get an error:

warning: Invalid EE Conditional Variable: {if(chain==1)FWShowHideLayer("mover",msg,true);} in mysite.com/mysystem/core/core.functions.php on line 2774

Quite understandable.
I was thinking, what if I copy the action from that page and save that as a .js file. Then call that script at the beginning of the page. (And remove the action itself of course) How can I point that Javascript to the layer I want to hide-show? And how could I set the trigger?

Is there an alternative?
