Managing an online shop

How do others manage their online shops?

Basically having a few product is easy to keep a track of, but what if you or your client has over 500?
Is the FW shop using Mals & PayPal the answer or should a more database driven solution be sought?

Hi Nathan,
Typically you’d want to use a database to handle the store content and
use templates so a single ‘product page’ can cater for thousands of
different items.
In the past I’ve recommended OptionCart (http://www.optioncart.com) as
it appears simple, easy to skin, and deals directly with Mals. The
company that owns OptionCart have now stopped selling direct and you
can now only get hold of the software through one of a number of
partner companies - usually in tandem with hosting or design services.

Steve at SB Design (http://freewaytalk.net/thread/view/50086#m_50152)
rolled his own database for his site (http://www.cotswoldengineeringsupplies.co.uk/
) and he’s got thousands of products!
Regards,
Tim.

Thanks Tim. I will look at getting a database built.
