If you Duplicate an instance of a master item, the Duplicate is not itself an instance and does not respond to master changes.

Is it possible to create multiple instances on the same page?

Nope - if you mean 2 items on 1 page that change with the settings of 1 item on a Master.

I would use an include for that.
