New area for me, but a client wants to talk over a screen grab vid in Camtasia (thanks to Walt for the heads up on this). There’s obviously a huge range available and obviously you get what you pay for. It’s just an engineering instructional video and the recording will be done in an office, not a sound studio, so it doesn’t need to be up to the BBC standard. Anybody here got any product recomendations please? I see some are USB connection, how does that work? The recording will also be done in Bootcamp (if that has any bearing). Ta.
Check out the Marshal Electronics MXL Tempo. For $75 (+/-) you can’t go wrong.
I’ve used their MXL line for years. Wish they had the Tempo a few years back, I’d have saved a few hundred on getting a mixing board and some more expensive mics (though still bargains in the market compared to others).
Samson C03U. It’s a multi-pattern USB condenser mic with wonderful sound for the price, and one of the settings is just right for eliminating the boominess that you get when recording in a typical office. $109 with free shipping from Amazon.
It’s a USB mic so you plug it in to your USB port and it works. On a Mac you go to the Sound preference panel and select it as the input.

I know I’m late to the party, but I’d like to second the recommendation for the C03. I also have a C01, but it’s not as nice as the 03. Splurge on a shock mount and a spit-filter, too. Makes all the difference. Skype sounds like the Evening News, I’m told.
