Looking at the code it looks like the Freeway page was hand coded (extended)cabel.name: FancyZoom 1.1 ).

There was a discussion about this recently but Max found a version using the prototype js library instead. http://www.freewaytalk.net/thread/view/47219
Walt explains briefly how to implement it.
Using fancyzoom as on your reference page isn’t all that hard, just putting the code where you need it in Freeway may be considered the only “hard” part.
