new arrows

Hello,

I have made a new style of arrow in the arrow editor (that means I
have drawn the head of the arrow in the editor)

I don’t understead how to get this new arrow style in the future
documents ; I have used the command “utiliser dans les nouveaux
documents” but when I open a new file the new arrow is lost ; what is
the effect of that command ? ( the only way I have found to save the
new shape is using the library with a sample of the new arrow )

by the way I don’t know the meaning of the tildes (~) beneath the
different styles of arrows in the menu…

Any drawn shape can be added to the Arrows palette and applied to paths.

In the Arrows palette, choose an arrow and click the ‘plus’ button. A copy appears at the top of the palette and is also added to the Strokes palette.

The arrow can be modified by dragging with the Point Selection tool. Points can be added or deleted and paths cut, etc. with the Scissors tool.

Draw a short path and select the new arrow. To distort the arrow, choose the Point Selection tool, hold down the Option key and drag one of the points. This is of limited use, but it gives you some idea of what’s possible. It would be great if Intaglio could wrap (or warp) text and drawn shapes around a path—like Illustrator and Expression.

Text characters can be used as arrows. Select Convert>Text to Path and copy and paste the outline into the Arrows palette.

The Apple Symbols font includes a useful selection of arrows, but Intaglio can only access some of them. It recognises font characters with Unicode names but ignores characters with GID numbers. Other OSX apps can enter any character by double clicking in the Character Palette.
Has anyone found a way of accessing GID characters in Intaglio? You can create a PDF in another drawing program and import, but it would be better if everything could be done in Intaglio.

The Tilde and minus icons in the Arrows palette don’t seem to do anything.

All what you wrote above, I knew it already ! but thank you very much
for the useful supplementary following explanations !

myquestion was : how can I use the knew arrow I have made in new
documents, without using the library of Intaglio ? there is a button
in the arrow editor, with whitch I can access to the menu item : “Use
in new documents”, but that is without effect : the new arrow does
not appear in the arrows’ menu when I create a knew document.

Have you tried creating a template?

I really ought to answer my own question but I am just curious: there
are other such “Use in new documents” e.g. in Layout > Measurements
and in Layout > Dimensions; do these work as they are supposed to?

yes, it is ok with both settings, they work in new documents, also
when I leave and launch Intaglio ago

I don’t know what a template is in Intaglio… ?-)

I know and can use the pages in the library but it is not what I want
because I don’t find it very convenient

jacques

Thanks. Now I am back to simplistic graphics for a mathematics text
and it does not matter but I spent the last few days doing some
architectural drawings and I was wondering.

Grateful regards

It looks to me like something Purgatory had thought of but forgot to
implement. Will probably show up in the next release.

As I don’t like the fact that you can only have one size arrowhead in
a given file it would allow me to replace some of these arrowheads I
never use by different sizes of the ones I do use in a same file.

In general, though, I don’t like the way arrowheads behave. But then
we are getting dangerously close to “featuritis”.

Regarding templates:
Save the Intaglio file with the new arrow. Quit Intaglio.
In the Finder, select the file. Choose ‘Get Info’ (Command-I) and click the ‘Stationery Pad’ checkbox.
Close the Info box.

Double-click the template. The file with the new arrow opens and a copy of the template is created. Both should contain the new arrow.

Alternatively, you could Save As, giving it a suitable name. When you want to access the new arrow, double-click the saved as file.

The above is messy, but it works with Intaglio 2.9.8 and OS 10.4.11.

There are yet more arrows in the Wingdings fonts and lots of pointed fists.

What you talk about is MacOS template, not Intaglio template ; using
the Intaglio library is for me more convenient, because the library
is always available ; but the new arrows in the menu would be still
much more convenient…
