I’ve just been given the publishing go-ahead by the subject of my
most recent panorama, so here it is.
Early this month I shot a VR panorama on-stage while Robert Plant was
singing ‘Battle of Evermore’ with Fairport Convention, at Cropredy
Festival in Oxfordshire.
I wasn’t able to get particularly near the front; I had to hide
behind some kit on the stage. But the tripod was beside that, and you
get a good view of people on the stage plus the large video screen at
the back. A challenging shot, but the result isn’t too bad.
(This is on a new domain that I’ll be sorting out specifically for my
panorama photography portfolio, but right now there’s not much on
there that’s public.)

Wow! Keith, very cool. I particularly like the way you can pan
vertically to see the ceiling and floor. The mess of cables all over
the floor is something I miss from the days when I played in rock bands
and later did mobile recording. Are you hidden in the shadows
somewhere?
Yeah, the beard. Is he trying to look as old as possible?
In some of the individual shots there are bits of me where I couldn’t
get completely out of the way. They are taken with a 3ft cable
release, and I couldn’t get up and walk around the tripod without
being seen.
But in that stitched panorama, nope, nothing. The overlap between
shots was enough to let me get rid of those bits of me.

Perhaps it is there to hide the crags - he turned 60 five days ago,
and he’s lived fairly hard. I think he did look better without it.
These days he often forbids pro-level photos when he sings; the
photographer’s pit was empty when he was on stage. Other than cameras
in the audience, the panorama was the only shot taken. And the deal
was that he had a veto on it being published. But I heard on Saturday
that he gave it the thumb’s up.
Yes, big yellow squishy things in my ears. It was fine with those in,
but I’d have been in trouble without 'em.
Yuk - I find those kinds don’t give a good flat response. I’ve had a pair of these custom made in the exact same colors as the ones featured near the top (directly under “ES49 Custom Fit Earplugs”). These things are SO flat, sometimes I can’t even tell I’m wearing them. Highly recommended for lovers of live music.

Too true. But far better than nothing! I was only on stage for that
song and the one after, which was a solemn tribute to Sandy Denny and
not the right moment for me to get up and go.

How many shots were there?
That’s made from six around, one up and a set downwards (multiple
ones at different rotations so I can eliminate the arm holding the
camera). One the down set have been composited, I stitch the eight
shots together.
I have 15 or so more shots of the stage area from drumkit to
stage-right as I kept shooting through much of the song, but that set
seemed the best.
