newbie with carousel problem - layers

Hi
I have searched so i am sorry if this repeats a previous problem, and maybe i am a little behind the times.

I have recently bought Freeway 5 Pro running on MacBook.

I want to create a “project gallery”, I have followed the method on www.walterdavisstudio.com (which is awesome… and thanks to all who offer this help!), but when I select the 2 html boxes (with embedded graphics and text) there is no carousel option available on the item/actions menu.

But… after much angst and hair pulling I have discovered that these html boxes MUST be set up as layers (for all newbies, you need to click this box in the Inspector pallette).

This has not been mentioned in any post i have read yet.

So, I guess this is not so much a question as more of a thank you to all of the people on this site, and especially all the people who have made tutorials for this terrific software, and if there were more of these then I would be eternally grateful.

and after all of that…

it works fine when I preview… but when i try to view in browser I receive this error message:

This page contains both packed and regular versions of Prototype or Scriptaculous libraries. Publishing cannot continue.

I really thought I had cracked it while writing this post… please help.

thanks. D

There is a conflict when using 2 versions of Protaculous on the same page - are you using Weavers actions as well?

You have to make sure that 2 versions are not being loaded in the same page.

I believe the later version of Weavers action does give a warning about this.

Check for 2 instances and remove one of them.

how do i check?

i had this problem first time around, and it wouldn’ let me even preview… i started again from scratch, then i get to preview stage, but will not publish??

I am not using weavers, as far as i know, i downloaded some of these actions on a spree (on a night of searching for cool ideas) are some of them interferring with others?

thx for help

Hi Django - glad you got it sorted.

So that others will not make the same mistake tell us what went wrong and what you did to sort it.

ok…

I set up a new page within my own site to experiment with carousel.

I arranged as is described on the site www.walterdavisstudio.com

which i cannot recommend enough for anyone trying to do this sort of thing (there is a paucity of tutorials online about this great software for designers (c’mon peeps, you know you can!!).

However I also discovered that when i searched through all of the sections of the page (i recommend looking at the LH site/page panel) to see which aspects have an action (or not associated with it) that there seemed to be a strange item (that had no name) that was interfering with the other options that I had.

Honestly, I stopped… duplicated the page, and deleted anything that i din’t know what it did… it was long winded… dirty, and made me scream for a glass of arsenic/wine/beer… but it worked…

I would suggest working with a completely blank page… follow the instructions on the excellent site (honestly i love these guys, IT is not meant to be opaque like it was when i was 10)… and it finally worked…

I haven’t include it on the online version yet, but it works, just gotta get the family (who i am making the site for - to ok it… it looks cool and the gang!!), but i know for sure i will be back here again for a little help…

thx delta… you rock!

Thanks very much for your feedback. I updated the instructions at
Carousel in Freeway to include the black-
letter warning about layers. Very important, as you discovered.

As to the warning about more than one version of Prototype in the
page, that shouldn’t be possible, unless you had also applied either
Protaculous to the page or Observer to an element on the page.
Carousel uses the same version of Prototype and Scriptaculous as all
of the Softpress FX Actions (so no conflict is possible), and there
aren’t any other third-party Actions that use these libraries as far
as I know.

If you had applied one of Weaver’s MooTools-based Actions to the
page, then the whole thing would just silently fail. MooTools and
Prototype, while they forked from the same project a year or three
ago, basically hate each others’ guts, and refuse to get along. I
believe that Weaver has put some warnings into his Actions that
detect when any of the Proto/Scripty stuff is included in the page
and make appropriate throat-clearing noises.
