Occasional image not loading in Mootools Lightbox/Slimbox

Hi. I’m creating an artist’s site which contains several galleries that I’ve made using the fab and groovy Mootools Lightbox/Slimbox action. Everything has worked beautifully, except that I have a couple of rogue images that refuse to load in the gallery. All I get is an eternal spinning progress indicator. I’ve checked the images, and they are all 8-bit RGB .jpg files. The settings in the Actions palette appear to be the same for all images as well.

This happens when I preview in Freeway, Camino, Safari and Omniweb. Is there anything I might be missing here?

Many thanks!

Filenames are the only thing that comes to mind. Check for punctuation or numerals in the filename of the problem images.

There is a possibility of a ubiquitous bug that rears up every so often when uploading files.

If you have a page that I could look at, then I could narrow it down whether it is an image, filename, or coding bug that is happening here.

Thanks

The filenames appear to be OK. And this seems to happen at random, even to the extent of happening to different images after each publish. Weaver, you can have a look here if you like:

Click on the “Recent & current projects” link at the bottom right. The gallery should contain 8 images, but for some reason only shows 5 in the text, and always refuses to load image 3, no matter what it is.

Thanks!

Thank you for this link, it is very helpful.

This problem helped me find a flaw in my coding. Meanwhile, your page issue appears to be partly with filenames and partly with a couple of other issues. Mostly, I believe they are on my end of the Action.

An official update that should cover these issues will be out around the first of the year.

If you can wait till then, great. If not, you can try this:

  • On the instance of the moo:Slimbox, toggle the max Sizes checkbox to the opposite it is now and republish. Hopefully this will jog the Action to correctly publish the slide images.

Note, though, the Action is not entirely intended to ‘convert’ files from formats that browsers cannot normally handle. Hypothetically, you cannot specify a pdf file and expect the Action to generate an image for you. A litmus test is to confirm that you can open the source file directly in the browser. If the source file fails, then, chances are, the Action output will also fail to display.

You may want to just double-check that your source images can be viewed directly in a browser.

Thanks a lot, Weaver. I think I can wait til the update comes out, but in the meantime I’ll double-check my images, and if I get itchy, I’ll try your tip about toggling the Max Size checkbox.

Best wishes

The Mootools update has solved this issue. Many thanks, Weaver!

I’ve just updated to FW 5.5 and this issue has returned.

The site I’m working on is for a theater company. On most pages is an image of the poster for that page’s show. When the user clicks on it, Slimbox does its thing and shows a larger version of the image.

Here’s the issue. Several pages have exactly the same thumbnail, in exactly the same place, performing exactly the same thing when clicked on. Yet, it’s been a song and a dance to get 3 of the 4 pages to work properly. I’ve got the spinning progress indicator time and time again. The fourth and final page in question refuses to load the slimbox image.

I’ve tried several ways of fixing this:

I’ve eliminated the issue with master pages by removing the Moo action from master pages and just using it directly on the pages in question

I got the slimbox to work on one page, and copied and pasted that image+action right onto the other pages, where it at first refuses to work!

I’ve tried cutting and pasting again, toggling the Max Popup Sizes and republishing, force republishing, and regenerating the original jpg file, eventually sorting out three pages (with no apparent rhyme or reason as to the solution), but the fourth still won’t budge.

It’s a mystery. I have exactly the same thing working fine on three pages, and not working at all on the fourth. Any ideas?

Remove mootools and all its brethren and replace with Scripty Lightbox, the new Showcase Gallery you have with FW5.5 or fit the site out with WebYep and and employ image+lightbox or gallery+lightbox.

I tried out the Mootools actions and found them too much trouble, too time consuming plus they do not like to be on the same page as many other superior actions from FW. I think they are best left out, untouched. Then no song and dance, except on the stage you are promoting.

Can the showcase gallery create a simple pop-up overlay effect? I had the impression it was for full-blown galleries.

I’ve considered moving over to ScriptyLightbox, but I’ve never used it before and couldn’t find any free detailed documentation on it. Plus, to do things right, I’d have to replace all my other Moo lightboxes on the site, which seems like a lot of work just for the sake of one image.

Yes showcase can. It could be used for a single image in gallery mode (not slide show) any where on the page. I have placed four showcase galleries on one page, each with 3 images which pop up in a light box, which can then be clicked through with the mouse or keyboard arrows or allowed to rotate on their own. Wouldn’t need this for a single image though. http://www.lamaisondelucie.com/english/gallery-rooms-en.html

Scriptylightbox basic instructions at action forge ScriptyLightbox - ActionsForge then search this forum for further thoughts. It can take other mediamovies which might interest a theatre.

Thanks, Richard. Day 1 with FW 5.5 and I’m already in Showcase. It is indeed very easy to use and sorted out the issue. I’ll slowly move the other images over to SC, ao that all popups on the site match.

Thank goodness for freewaytalk.

Quite a coincidence, I’ve only just discovered this problem myself while working on a new site for an artist. Spent hours trying to sort the issue out that I hadn’t a problem with before.
Previously the action worked brilliantly on another artists site I did.

I’ve only just upgraded to SL so guess that might be in part the cause.

Weaver, please don’t abandon a fix, its a great action, that and I’ll possibly need again.

Looks as if SP will be getting some more of my money for 5.5:-(
