in OSX 10.4.11 I learned os a small script I could run through ‘Automator’ to reveal all the hidden files on the system - I needed to do this to find some things which I thought had vanised into thin air! I ran the script in automator, all the icons used on the Mac dimmed by about 50% in colour strength, and I found my files.
Trouble is, I now can’t revert to pre-automated status! The script also seems to have disappeared out of the My Worflow folder in Automator, so I don’t even know what or where it came from!
I’m trying to get rid of all the .trash and .DS_store files and icons which are now littering everything I do. I’d also like my icons back at 100% colour strength !
Go and download a copy of TinkerTool from Marcel Bresink Software.
This gives you a nice friendly graphical user interface to all those
nasty UNIXey things and should let you turn the visible invisible
stuff back to invisible.
Make sure you find the right version for the OS you’re using. While
TinkerTool claims not to actually hack the system files, just make
hidden features easy to access, there are subtle differences between
the versions depending on which OS you have.
I’m sure someone will pop along with a Terminal command for you, but I
prefer to do things the proper Mac-like way.
