Pasteboard

Hi - I’m just trying to work out what the pasteboard does, I’ve found that I can’t drag an image past it’s edge so i increase the ‘pasteboard width’ and can then move the image but my ‘page’ is now centred in a large pasteboard and I’d like to move it top left, indeed I’d like all my pages ranged to the top and hard left, is this possible, I’ve tried dragging the cursor from the corner of the rulers but to no avail, any further advice please. best Roger

Imagine that you’re sitting at a drawing board. The centre of the
board is your artwork, and all around is “spare”, a place where you
can drop items you don’t need right now. Essentially, but not actually
true in all cases, items on the pasteboard are not published when you
view in the browser or Preview.

Freeway is based on a desktop publishing software method of working,
which in itself was based on the old artworking methods of pasting
type and stuff onto boards. The concept of the pasteboard is familiar
to anyone who has worked with the major DTP applications, but it may
well throw someone who’s never used such applications.

You can’t actually move your “page” on the pasteboard, but if you like
your document set to appear to be at the top left of the working
window, make it actual size (100%) and hit the Home key (arrow point
up and left on modern keyboards). The page will now nestle nicely at
the top left hand corner.

Hope that helps.

It’s very important to note that this is true ONLY when the CSS
Layout button is off. While it is on, objects drawn on the pasteboard
to the right of the page (on a non- or left-aligned page) will
publish and appear in the browser. On a centered page, objects on
both sides of the page will appear. Objects placed to the top of the
page will never appear, but again, will publish – adding to your
page size.

If you want an object on the pasteboard to just sit there and not
contribute to the finished page, you must select the object and
either un-check either the Layer checkbox or the Publish checkbox in
the Inspector.

I thought I’d replied to thank you Heather, that’s twice today I’ve thought I’d replied and not found the reply later - it must be an age thing, frightening !

Anyway, thanks so much Heather, the ‘home’ key does just what I wanted and thanks to you both i understand the pasteboard better now.

Good of you both to take the time.

Roger
