pencil line image to look transparent

I’m attempting to make a page look like a sheet of paper. I import the tiff image of the paper. Then on top( on a separate layer) I want an image of pencil lines on my paper. I have saved the pencil image as PNG to no avail…I’m using Freeway Pro 4.4.2.

any suggestions much appreciated

Two things…

First of all, it sounds as if you want to use the paper image as a
page background image. If that’s the case then you will have to save
it as a web-ready graphic, a JPEG or a GIF (or possibly a PNG, but
that gives no advantage for this).

You can do this from Photoshop - but you can also optimise and export
directly from Freeway if you like!

Add this to your page as a proper page background, not just a graphic
in a box, by using the Inspector palette’s Background controls - or
by holding down the Shift key and dropping it from the Finder onto
your page.

Now on to the second thing. To make an imported image more
transparent, pull down the Item menu, go to Actions, and pick Fade.
In the Actions palette you can control how much transparency is
applied.

Don’t forget you can import native Photoshop files, and transparency
in Photoshop equals transparency in your Freeway layout.

(This is then produced as the best equivalent in the output format -
GIF, JPEG or PNG - that Freeway generates from this.)

I seem to be having trouble getting the page image centered as the background when viewed in preview. I’ve tried center, top, etc…the image does not want to go where the page is indicated by the black outline. I’ve applied this to the master page.

Start by doing this to a single test page rather than a master page
to begin with; that will keep things simple. Then check your page
alignment settings in the Inspector palette too.
