PHP Feedback Form

Tim,

There is something strange with my sent messages folder. It doesn’t seem to register everything that I thought I sent.
Therefore, if this is a repeat, I apologize.
Regarding the PHP Feedback Form Action, as you know, I spoke with Yahoo and the tech guy changed some code. The form became functional.
The next night I called them back asking how I get that new updated page down to my computer. I assumed that there was a simple download button. Nope. (Weird). They thought it was strange that Freeway doesn’t have a download button either. (I think so too but maybe there is good reason that I don’t know about).
They worked with me to download the file to my computer. It took over an hour. I thought that they had put it in it’s ‘proper’ place so I changed the contact us form so that it no longer says that there is an error and uploaded again. The Contact Us Form stopped working. Panic.
Maybe I uploaded the old form that doesn’t work. I went over to the import file and dragged the new contact us page over the old one in the usual file thinking that the new one will replace the old one. Uploaded again. Still didn’t work. And that page is now absent from the import file. So I’m wondering if I’ve somehow lost the page that has the new code on it. And I’ve erased it on the server by uploading. Or maybe something else happened. I don’t know.
All of this is terrible.
I am attaching a page that looks like code but I have no idea whether it is the new code or the old code. I’m pulling it from the import file, so I assume it is new.
Would you look at it and tell me if this is the updated code? And if it is, how do I get that code into a contact us page?

I spoke with Yahoo and the tech guy changed some code

What code did they change and where? If they changed code that was in FW generated pages then that is the wrong way to go because every time that you change something in FW it will be overwritten on the server!

There is no ‘Code Import’ function in FW because , unlike Dreamweaver, FWv is a Code Generator NOT a code editor.

If you have a problem with a form that doesn’t work it is far better to sort the problem within FW - unless it is a Server Side issue (like known issues with GoDaddy hosting)

Do you have Yahoo as a Host? If so maybe you should consider some webspace with a ‘proper’ hosting service. Hosting is pretty cheap these days and services like Yahoo and so called ‘Free Services’ do impose restrictions on what you can do.

Hello folks,

I’m having an extremely frustrating time trying to keep my page
content in the middle.
I have some side bars that have the “can grow” option checked, so the
grow to whatever with the page goes to.
But the pictures and text of the page remain on the left and get
overlaid by my left-hand navigation panel.
How can I keep contents of the page in the middle of the screen when
the page is resized?

Thanks,
Adrian

Ooops!
Figured it out - uncheck “Layer”.
Thanks,
Adrian

Thanks David for your feedback. Let me provide some background in hopes that with everyones’ help, I might be able to conclude this issue.
When I couldn’t get the PHP Feedback Form to work, Tim graciously offered to look at my work. (Thanks Tim). He said that I had set it up correctly and suggested that I contact Yahoo. He wasn’t suggesting that Yahoo re-write the code but instead to see if there was something else the matter. There was an issue with email addresses. But that didn’t solve the problem which is why the Yahoo tech re-wrote the code.
I agree that having a third party re-write the code isn’t the most efficient method but because it worked, I felt I had found a solution. Tim said he’d like to look at the code which I was very happy to do. But it turns out you are correct because the re-written code is now gone and I’m at square one.
So let’s back up with my question. I pay Yahoo about $12 (or is it $20) per month for webhosting. So it’s not a free service. BUT, do you (plural) suggest that I switch to something else? Does Yahoo not cut it? Whom do you recommend?
Next question, do you think that switching webhosting servers (depending on the choice) will solve the problem of my not being able to get the Feedback Form to work (even though it is set up correctly according to the author of the code.)
I update my website almost every day which is why I like to do it myself. I switched to FW because I switched to a mac and could no longer use the software I was using on the PC.
Thanks for your help.

Yes

There are a couple of guys here that provide hosting services - services which are industry standard - and have No problems with Tim’s action. The benefit of these guys is that they are also FW users themselves and are likely to have experience of any FW specific problems. Not that I am aware that there are any!

Those guys are David at I Need Web Hosting Mac friendly web hosting and domain registration - who has packages from £15pa ($25) and James at http://www.have-host.com/index.php?id=2 - packages from $6pm

You might also want to consider implementing one of the Free Calendar scripts that are available for your site to help with updating.

Ashley asked:

David replied:

Yes

My tuppence:

This is just web page stuff. Freeway will be able to output code that
works, it just needs to be set up correctly.

Personally, I’d recommend first trying to get the form working where
it is, with our help as necessary. Sure, changing hosts might help,
but at this stage (we don’t actually know what the real problem
was/is) this doesn’t seem like a good enough reason to go through the
hassle of switching.

First thing: could you get an example of a working Yahoo form page?
Then perhaps some of us can look it over and make more informed
suggestions. And perhaps even tell you how to get it working with
everything else left as-is.

Freeway will be able to output code that works

Undoubtedly! But if her host had to fiddle with it, even after Tim’s input, what hope is there for a sustained solution.

Sure there is the hassle of switching but if Ashley can get a better hosting experience AND save herself some money…$12pm = $144pa David at ineed… is only £15 ($25) for a year of hosting.

You don’t need me to tell you how much a saving that is. And no, I am not on commission.

I’d like to know what the fiddling involved. Find that out and the
result should be a working form that’s managed in Freeway.

But yes, there’s also the hosting service cost factor.

Yes I would too because I like to be prepared for the client that insists on hosting with the likes of Yahoo - and I am sure that Tim would like to make sure his action works there as well - in the same way he has extended it to work with GoDaddy’s servers.

Speaking of mail working or not, I haven’t seen any posts from Tim in a couple of days. And Dave was replying to someones’ comments that I hadn’t seen. Assumed it was a private side talk but not sure.

“I’d like to know what the fiddling involved.”

I sent a page that was either the new or the old code. Don’t know enough about code to know. Want me to send it again?

You can’t send attachments here, sorry. It goes out to a very large
number of people, most of whom wouldn’t thank you for that!

I’d rather look at something that I knew worked. Any chance of that?
