pixelmator Vs PSD

Each pix is taking me 20-30 min t remove the background

I hope you are charging for this.

If your client cant supply what we call ‘camera ready’ artwork then you should charge them the going rate.

PS if anyone has a program recommendation that is good to remove backgrounds (textured) from photos - I would love to hear it. I am using the quick mask in PSD and its a bear.

Have you tried ‘Extract’ in Photoshop Julie?

I have been going by many tutorials and most are the quick / lasso and the quick mask

can you suggest a few pieces of software?

Thanks

There are plenty of tutorials on the web to clip out backgrounds or send the image off and get it done professionally. There’s also plenty dedicated software for clipping out backgrounds that are better than Pixelmator or CS5.

Pixelmator is no more ‘creative’ than CS5.

You’ll find it in the ‘Filter’ menu; Photoshop help will tell you how to use it.

I picked up Pixelmator because it’s currently $30, and because I don’t have PS, nor do I want it. I’m not a big fan of Adobe, and I can’t justify buying all that stuff.

I’ve had versions of PS Elements in the past, and it was okay, but I didn’t like the way it “forced” you to work their way by default. It did what I needed though, since my design work is/was almost exclusively web and not print.

The way I see it, if you already have PS and/or you work with other people who do, that’s the way to go. But Pixelmator is a handy tool for those of us who need that sort of thing once in a while.
