Please, please help with rollovers

I am simply trying to create set of four rollovers.

I have had contradictory instructions from Freeway and other sources and continue to face issues that are simply not in the book.

I now can create at least one working rollover (no, Freeway, not the say you said to do it).

My question now is how to copy it. I have done it two ways – one by clicking on the graphic itself, copying and dragging the new version off the top of the old one. The other way by copying from the list. I can get one right through these methods, but the 3rd and 4th versions pop up a “combine with children” click on. I am lost.

Have you tried selecting the item, and apple + D, or select “duplicate” from the item menu, a pop up window will then appear asking you how many times you want it duplicated and the vertical and horizontal offsets from the original.

Yes. The problem is that I keep getting “combine with children” option and some copies do not work.
