That looks quite good (from the YouTube clip), I haven’t had a good trawl through the site itself yet though. Any ideas if it can be integrated with FW? It looks like a standalone site maker from what I can gather.

Any ideas if it can be integrated with FW?

It seems that modifying one of the default templates is the preferred way which means FW is out. However, I believe I did see mention of designing templates from scratch though what exactly is involved and how feasible it would be with FW I can’t say, though the basic process does seem to assume a text-editor as the primary tool.

I don’t know, I used to say that Joomla! was out of reach, but then Paul Dunning went and did THAT, so I am not one to say you can’t get there from here. The price is right, the icons are glossy, it might be something worth pursuing.

From a cursory look at the docs there does seem to be a fair amount of tinkering with templates and such but I agree, it’s worth a look. The templates are built with Smarty.

They certainly make a frequent point of saying “your server”. I wonder if that means using a shared server is verboten?

No, I infer that to mean that it runs at the server, rather than the desktop.

Perhaps, but their other point of “hosting” multiple sites with one install on a shared server sounds too good to be true…more likely i’m just confused of course without delving deeper.

I’m hoping this is what Freeway will have integrated soon. I would love it if Softpress integrated a service like this into Freeway. Adobe’s Muse does it (this is the main reason why I am keeping a keen eye on this)…

Please!!!?

It looks like each “site” is based on the self-contained default “theme” folder which you modify as needed; each site is graphically listed in the SetSeed Hub. Each site’s folder ties into the core framework which provides the CMS functionality. How you choose to implement that functionality on a site-by-site basis is up to you. So not only is it a CMS but it also offers the ability to manage all your SS-powered sites from a single UI, regardless of where you’re deploying them. But I could be wrong.

It’s an interesting idea.

Certainly looks interesting, a good set of features (calendar and e commerce gallery in particular for me) but their own website is blooming confusing and I’m starting to wonder what their hiding. Setseed hub and assets, what on earth or the land of gobbledygook.

I don’t want to start populating the top level of my website to try out the demo just yet. Hopefully others braver and smarter might.

I have had a look at SetSeed but there are issues that FW users should be aware of.

Primarily it is recommended that SetSeed is installed on your server at the top level but NOT alongside other pages - this is because the system “uses top level URL rewriting so will likely cause a lot of issues if you try and run it alongside any existing pages!” - That quote is from the developer, Ben Vallack.

So it may well be a good offering as far as a site built in its entirety from the CMS goes but it will have problems as part of a larger site and is not designed to make part of your site editable. It is all or nothing.
