[Pro] 404 Error

Hi again,

I’m not sure if this is actually a Freeway problem, but thought I’d post because you’ve been able to solve every issue I’ve asked about so far.

I’ve got my new website published and my Dad is helping me test functionality and links. We’ve run into an oddity that neither of us is able to figure out. We can both access the site from our computers (laptops and desk tops, Macs and PCs) and iPads, but neither of us can access from our iPhones.

When accessing the site from our iPhones (iPhone 4S and iPhone 5S), we get a “404-Page Not Found” message. Is this because I haven’t created a mobile website yet, or have I done something else wrong?

Any words of wisdom appreciated. Thanks!

Sue

Nothing to do with a mobile specific site.

What is the actual file name of the ‘home’ page in the trial folder - is it index.html?

Yes, index.html.

Is there a server side redirect set up to your existing mobile site as when I visited arkadaslik-yachting.com (not the trial folder) I got a mobile site.

Thanks for taking the time to help!

I’m not sure if I understand your question, but my guess is yes. My old site (www.arkadaslik-yachting.com) was built using Weebly Drag and Drop tool. I didn’t have to do anything “extra” to create the mobile site - it just happened in the background.

I assume that’s what you mean by a server side redirect, but feel free to correct me if I’m off base.

I am not familiar with Weebly so have no idea what goes on in the background but that is the first place I would start to look.

It seems curious that only iPhone users get the 404 - or is it other mobile users too?

Can you test with some other mobiles?

Not working on my crew’s phones either, and they’ve got LGs and Samsungs. But, works fine on iPad and iPad Mini. Weird!

Maybe the problem will disappear when I eliminate the Weebly site and replace it with the new one after testing is finished. Is that possible, or simply wishful thinking?

Are you hosting with Weebly - that may be where the issue lies.

But I would check Weebly’s support section for a possible answer there.

Makes me think that this is a screen resolution redirect issue.

iPad and iPad mini resolutions are much higher than most smart phones.

Hi Sue,
Your existing site has a block of JavaScript in it that looks for a previously set cookie on the visitor’s machine and redirects them to the mobile site if found. I suspect all of the devices you’ve tested the new site on have this cookie. Delete the cookie from the device and reload the page and you should see your new design without getting redirected.
Regards,
Tim.

Cant see this being the case.

I have visited the site - www.arkadaslik-yachting.com/trial - with a fresh browser and also get the 404.

I have never visited this site before with this Browser from my iPhone!

Hi guys,

Just a quick report back. The problem disappeared as soon as I deleted the old (Weebly-built) website and replaced it with the new (Freeway-built) website. Must have had something to do with the Weebly redirect coding.

Thank you for your assistance!

Regards,

Sue
