[Pro] Action Problem or Am I Missing Something

Hi

It’s either me and I’m missing something or I’ve got a problem with Freeway Actions. The problem is, I can attach an action, say ‘Text Link Style’, to a HTML Footer but it does not display the action dialog box, so it does not allow me to set anything. If I set a ‘Page Action’ say Background Slideshow, again the action dialog box does not show, so I can not add any images for the background.

I only noticed this after upgrading to FW 6.0.6 (6776). So is this a problem or am I now missing somethig in v6.0.6.

Thanks for your help

Regards

Lee

The first question I would be asking is if these actions are actually FW6 compatible.

Text Link styling can be done natively in FW anyway by selecting the Html container and setting the styles under the Paintbrush tab in the Links section of the Inspector.

The second is, are you selecting these items before looking in the Actions palette? Like the Inspector, that palette is context-sensitive. You have to select an item (corner handles showing) in order to see any Actions applied to it. For the page, you have to click on an empty bit of pasteboard (so no individual item is selected) in order to see the page Actions.

Hi Walter & David

Ok, this has only started since v6.0.6. Before that every thing was working.

I noticed it when I went to add another page to a site that was originally made with v5.. I up graded to v6 without problems and through to v6.0.5 the same, no problems. Then I went to v6.0.6

When I went to add another page yesterday, I found that the CSS3 Menu Action would not open to show the dialog box, so could not alter the Menu through the Action.

I have tested out the CSS3 Corner Action. Made a new Blank page with dimension’s of 960x720px, on that page I added a 200x200px HTML item, with a border of 5px in Red. I clicked on the box and got 4 corner handles + 4 others. Applied the CSS3 Corner Action BUT no dialog box displayed so I could set the settings of the corner’s.

On most actions that I have try to use, I cant because, if the action requiries an input of some type NO box is displayed for me to input the information.

That’s why I’m asking. Am I missing something in v6.0.6

Nope - it sounds more likely that you have a corrupt Preferences file.

Shut down FW - trash the preferences, empty the trash and fire up FW again.

Thanks for that David but just on last question. Where does the Preferences file lives nowadays and how do you get to it??

Hi

I did what David said and yes it cleared one problem but I still cannot input any information into an Action that may need an input of some sort.

Any ideas as to why??

Might well be worth sending an example FW doc into support(a)softpress.com

You might want to add one more step into the mix first.

Quit FW

Trash Preference File

Empty Trash

Restart Mac

Hi David

May well do that, Thnks. Would it make any difference if I had older versions of the preferences file. This is what I have got in the Library at present, after removing Freeway 6 Pro Preferences.

Freeway 5 Pro Install,
Freeway 5.5 Pro Preferences,
Freeway 6 Pro Install,
Freeway Pro 5 Preferences,

Earlier preference files should make no difference.

Hi All

The truth is, I’ve got one big problem. I still cannot get Freeway working correctly. Sent the file to Softpress and they did suggest that I reinstalled OS X Lion, which I have just done - 2 hours later, Freeway still does not work correctly.

I have not had a defined answer from Softpress, due to Easter break but I’m left with 2 options. Firstly, move on to Mountain Lion which I may do. The other is to remove Freeway completely. The lot, actions as well.

So, what’s the best way to remove Freeway and all it’s associated files.

Freeway leaves a pretty small footprint. You will have /Applications/Freeway Pro.app and ~/Library/Preferences/ [3 or so files with softpress or freeway in the name] and ~/Library/Application Support/Freeway Pro. Off the top of my head, that’s it. You may also want to look in /Library/Application Support (the global Library) and see if there are any files in there related to Freeway or softpress.

I presume you are on a bug hunt looking for corrupted preferences or something like that, right? I’ve used Freeway since 1997, and while I have had some issues with it, I can count the number of times I needed to reinstall it from scratch on zero hands.

Hi Walter, Correct. Everything was working a treat, then I downloaded FW v6.0.6 Did a small page design on the front page of the site and that was it. Screwed up site, well at least 2 pages. First time I’ve ever had problems with Freeway this bad in what, 5/6 years of working with it.

Thanks for your help

Hi All

Sorry if this dragging on but I still can not get FW working correctly.

I have just noticed that if I apply an action, say to a HTML box, you would normly see the little Freeway ‘Cog’ attached to the ‘Page’ in the Site Pane on the left. When I do it, you can add the action to the HTML box but cog does show in the site pane.

Any ideas. I will be getting back to Support.

You would only see the cog attached to the page if you had applied a page Action to the page itself. To see if any elements on the page have Actions applied to them, expand the page (use the little triangle toggle next to the name, or click on the Site header so it changes to Page) and look at the names of the individual elements. Any that have Actions applied to them will be “badged” with the Action cog.

Hi Walter

Sorry, my error.

I’m just getting so fed up with this now, I just don’t know what went wrong so I’m looking at everything. Still can’t find a bug, so I’ll have to try and see what I down loaded since FW v6.0.5. I made a copy of FW v6 when it came out and tried that again - after removing v6.0.7 - even that didn’t work. Now on OS X 10.8.3

Got to get this sorted out soon, as I’ve got work to do on some of the sites.

Thanks for pointing out my error.

Hi Lee,

Can I just confirm that the problem you’re still having is that even if you have selected an item with an Action applied to it, no interface is being shown in the Actions palette? Or can you not see the Actions palette at all, even if you select the Actions menu item from the Window menu?

If you aren’t seeing the Actions palette at all, is there a tick next to the Actions menu item in the Window menu? What about after you have selected this menu item and reopened the Window menu?

Thanks,

Stewart

Hi Stewart

I think I have sorted it. On all other versions that I have had the ‘Action’ in the ‘Window’ Menu must have been ✓ already but I have just checked the ‘Menu’ in v6.0.7 and it was not.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
