[Pro] Action: What Version Do I Have?

What’s the best way to keep up with the latest versions of Actions?

Most don’t seem to have version numbers, so when one gets updated and the author gives a version number, how do we know to update it? Just go by the date?

Also, is there a way to actually know when Actions get updated? Sometimes I download an Action thinking I might need it, but don’t actually get around to using in until much later, then I have to wonder if I have the latest version.

I know. It’s not enough that the kind Actions developer give them away, but now I want more!

Thanks.

Have you looked on ActionsForge? The way that service is architected, there is a strong incentive for developers to version their files, and everything there is listed by version and date.

Also, whenever an Action is active, you can note its version number in the lower-right corner of the Actions palette. What you won’t find generally is the version number being a part of the filename of the Action.

Yes, I have checked Action Forge, I just thought there was an easier way to get update notifications.

Sometimes, I’ve noticed a particular topic in a thread will cause a developer to update their Action, and that may be the only way to find it.

I tried doing a “get info” on the Actions, but I never seem to see a version number on them. Seems the best bet is, if your about to use an Action, check by date on Action Forge to see if it has been updated.

You can subscribe to individual projects in ActionsForge using RSS, and the current version shows for each Action in that project. I keep meaning to get around to making a “My Actions” view on the Forge, where you could see all the Actions you care about (and subscribe for updates) in one place. One day I will have all the time I need (insert reference to Twilight Zone here).
