Cashie Commerce tells me that I need to copy the code from the store pages created there into my existing Freeway site. Need help understanding this process and how to do it.
I’m assuming that there IS a way to copy code into my Freeway site to insert new (Cashie Store) pages that can be linked with all the other existing pages. If this can’t be done for some reason, I need to know that, right?
My website is www.pearlharborchild.com, and I’ve been trying to add a shopping cart for many moons without success. It would be a HUGE benefit if I could get some help with this. Some time ago, I tried Mal’s ecommerce, but couldn’t make it work for me. So I really need help.
Freeway has two ways to add code. One is via HTML Markup option under the Page menu, and the other is a Markup item under the Insert menu. After just a quick glance at Cashie instructions it sounds like they produce code for a whole page to be inserted into your site. At least that’s the way it reads. If that is so then you would use the HTML Markup option on a blank Freeway page.
How many products and of what type are they - do you need Cashie?
But as Chuckamuck says it doesn’t look too hard and appears that the Cashie code should be added to the Body of your page -so it may well be that Insert>Markup Item is they way to do it. Only had a quick look though.
If you only have a few physical products to sell it is actually really easy to use the E-Shop actions with Mal’s and a PayPal account and save yourself some fees. But all things have to be considered.
Although a Markup item is logical and is automatically inserted into the body, in this usage it would perhaps be better to use the HTML Markup selecting the After Body/ option to avoid any styling conflicts with the auto
tag. This is assuming that the entire page is predesigned in Cashie.
Many thanks for the helpful comments and suggestions. As I understand it, Cashie DOES provide code by page.
Not too sure I need Cashie, my reason is that for only 4-6 products, there is no monthly charge, just a small percentage of actual orders received, which I like.
Maybe I should take another look at Mal’s program? I do have the least expensive type of Paypal account . . . can I add actions to make a store in that way? This would have some appeal, because I’ve already built several store pages with photos and text, etc. Does this change any of your recommendations?
Larry
DeltaDave,
Thank you for spending 10 minutes on my behalf . . . I liked what you did! Some comments:
I have sold nothing overseas, so likely won’t need VAT
We have only four products that will need to be shipped, the other two will become downloadable, which is another task for later.
The prices are not quite right.
This is probably crazy, but I have thought that people would like the idea of buying their book or DVD direct from the “Pearl Harbor Child” herself, not from some unknown company, and since my wife, Dorinda IS the PHC, we can even offer autographed copies. So I’d like her photo to be featured on the store page(s).
Dave, sorry, but I have several more questions, OK?
I have added Paypal “Buynow” buttons for my four products. Now, when uploading I get several “Parameter has no value.” messages, and I don’t know what to do with them.
Doing the store this way, does this mean I won’t need either Mal’s or Cashie or Shopify?
Please guide me on connecting the store with Paypal and any other tips or suggestions on making this work.
I can’t thank you enough . . . is there something I can do for you? Larry
You seem to have this working but can I make a couple of suggestions.
1 - On your newstore.html page you have the Add to Cart buttons but there is no price. Nobody is going to Add to Cart without knowing how much first!
2 - On the individual product pages you dont have the Add to Cart buttons. You should definitely have them next to the price on these pages. Dont make the customer have to click any more than necessary (back to the newstore.html page) - an extra click and a spontaneous sale is lost. There is no reason to not have your Add to Cart buttons on as many pages as you like.
3 - DVD’s… with an apostrophe! You don’t have one on Books… - is there a difference?
don’t want to interrupt the ongoing work - so go on …,
… but took a few minutes to have a look into cashie (which I didn’t knew before). This looks coool, so I’ll spent a couple of more minutes (if I find some).
Integration in fact as already above mentioned by D and Chuck:
Created a page, placed a Markup-item exactly there, where the shop should appear and it worked - yeahhh - cool. This is comparable to the ECWID integration.
The difference:
Each cashie widget needs a separate target-page (so in total six of them). It is really simple and clean, isn’t it? The design panel in cashie is so simple to adjust it to a current design.
Hi Dave and Thomas,
You’re right, I forgot to put Add to Cart buttons on the product pages, and will do that now. I just noticed that the buttons already on the main store page have no link, but they DO take me to the Paypal shopping cart.
So, do the Add to Cart buttons need to be linked somewhere? Please explain.
I can’t get the Contact page to work. I created the Contact page, added the form, then added the PHP Feedback form, selected the “addtocart” buttons, etc.
But when I test it using my email address, nothing happens, and no email is sent.
My site is almost done . . . please help me finish it, OK?
Larry
P.S. Yes, I do want an apostrophe after “DVD’s” but not after “books” because DVD’s is an abbreviation and “books” is not.
I can’t get the Contact page to work. I created the Contact page, added the form, then added the PHP Feedback form, selected the “addtocart” buttons, etc.
Not sure of the relevance of the Add to Cart buttons here!
Remove the PHPFF action from the Div ‘form’ and instead add it as a Page action ie Page>Page Actions>PHP Feedback Form and then set the parameters in the Action palette.
