[Pro] Adding copy block to Group of Targets

It is my understanding and experience that web crawlers are now mostly searching the copy in web sites rather than Meta Data. My site is about visual images with their descriptive size, etc., information which does not address the nature of the work itself. My pages have thumbnails with target images. On these pages, I want to place a block of copy in place of where the target images appear, copy which will be seen when the page first appears and whenever the cursor is not on a thumbnail. What this amounts to for example is 16 thumbnails, and 16 target images and 1 block of copy where another target images could appear. See the (folds) page on my site: www.joepalsa.com Joe

Joe, I don’t agree at all with your strategy to optimize your site for SEO.

The most important page in your site to a search engine is the index. Yours
has no text at all, only graphic text. Replace it with real text and add a
short, compelling summary about yourself and your work.

Your art and photo pages need no SEO really and (probably*) should be coded
for the bots to ignore.

Your bio page is graphic text… Really? That stuff must go.

Need help with it? Hire me and I’ll take care of it for you.

*probably. Some value could be derived from searchable image content with a
text association… especially if it were persistent content.

Your idea can certainly be done but as Ernie suggests there are more important areas of your site that need SEO attention first.

You can use Target Show/Hide Layer instead of Image to do what you want.

Another thing that you should address is your file names.

At the moment you have several page file names that contain apostrophes - joepalsa’sfolds.html - is just one example.

You should stick to alphanumerics for your file names such as (a-z, A-Z, 0-1) and _underscores and - hyphens. Certainly no other punctuation should be used as it can trip up certain browsers/operating systems.

Good file naming can also be beneficial in SEO results ie joe-palsas-sketches-on-paper.html is far more useful than joepalsa’sonpape.html
