Today is the day that our stuff is due to arrive from the States
(although it’s already delayed) so if I can dig the Mac server out and
get it up and running I’ll see if I can locate that action. Over the
weekend I started rewriting it from scratch (well, from 1s and 0s in
fact) and I would say I’m half way there. A lot of the advances in
action development are getting thrown in as well; folder actions, live
previews etc, so I’m hoping that it will work out OK. When I’ve a
version I’m happy with I’ll throw a version out for general testing
and feedback.
Depending on how disruptive the unpacking is that may happen later
this week.
Regards,
Tim.

Any news/update on the progress, I trust the boxes have been unpacked

Unpacking was apparently “disruptive” indeed.

JDW-I find it hard to read your comment as anything other than a critical swipe at a delay perceived as excessive. No doubt Tim does not need me to fight his battles, but I don’t find the tone of the comment helpful. Tim is offering to help. Like all of us he has other things to do. That’s his business. I am happy to wait for something good rather than get something half cooked in a hurry. I don’t want to veer off the topic we should hold on to-ie FW actions for a search.

Martin… but you are fighting the battles of another, and you did veer off the topic. If you are truly “happy to wait” as you say, then I would recommend you wait for Tim’s reply.

Not that I myself am waiting for Tim’s reply. I was simply making a willfully flippant remark to emphasize the plight of poor Helveticus, who clearly is eager to hear back from someone in this thread. And if one wishes to psychoanalyze me, perhaps one would be correct in concluding that the driving force behind my flippant post was my own nasty habit of posting follow-up responses to forums, emails, etc. in an unusually timely manner.

Getting back to the topic…

I see the title of this thread is “Atomz Search Customization.” My initial two posts in this thread were spot-on in that regard. And I still feel a solution is needed to make Atomz search customization easy to do within Freeway. For truly, not everyone will be excessively offended by a robust and mature, free search service such as Atomz (which I myself have used for many years) despite the fact that Atomz puts some ads (but none excessively obtrusive) in the search results.

Yes, I am aware that you, Martin Bullivant, are building a site for charity and your client feels that Atomz free service would be inappropriate. Indeed, Atomz likely would be a problematic choice for that particular client. And that is precisely why such would make an excellent topic for a new thread, appropriately titled. Creating a new thread would also likely garner more interest for you as well. For indeed, this thread has been idle over the past month.

Regardless, the thrust of this thread – should it remain true to its title – is “Atomz.” That is the only reason I initially chose to post within it. And I continue to look forward to further posts here that are relevant to that theme.

I was pointing out your approach sounded rude. Having read your response I can only reiterate my comment. I won’t be drawn any further-it would be, as we both say, off point.

Mr. Bullivant, you have been a member here since August 10, 2009. As such, you are likely unfamiliar with my black sense of humor and my tendency to perform “indirect prodding.” Sometimes threads need a kick in the pants to get going again. What I have done here is nothing new or excessively shocking. Some consider it funny, some consider it rude, some are apathetic toward it, and I consider it a means to an end. Diversity of thought makes the world go 'round (and keeps web design interesting too).

Perhaps it would be most appropriate at this point to find out just how many Freeway users are also Atomz users. For truly, active topics that garner the most interest tend to be those topics which are driven by a large number of people (or topics prodded along by rude and obnoxious loonies such as myself).

Is it even worth SoftPress’s time to make Atomz search easier to customize in Freeway? If you’re an Atomz user, let your voice be heard!

Martin, James (and everyone else),
Firstly I don’t think there is anything here to get hot under the
collar about. E-mail can be a tricky communications medium at the best
of times and a lot of the spirit of message can be missed or taken the
wrong way very easily. Personally i didn’t see anything upsetting in
James’ comment and in fact unpacking has proven to be a nightmare
(that is very much another story)!
Apologies for the delay in getting this action to you both but it has
taken me longer than first anticipated. That and the fact that I now
work full time for a Oxford based software company that is due to take
over the world with their award winning web design application has
meant that, unfortunately, projects like this have been pushed onto
the back burner.
Having said that there is a weekend coming up and I hope to make
significant progress into this project over that time.
Once I’ve an action that works and I’m happy isn’t going to destroy
your sites I’ll post a public beta that you can all try out.
Thanks,
Tim.

Dear FreewayTalkers

To clarify Tim’s cryptic reference to “Oxford based software company”, I
am happy (indeed overwhelmed with joy) to report officially that Tim is
now a full-time employee here at Softpress Towers.

In consequence, Tim’s “free time” (a concept surgically removed from the
psyche of all our team members) is likely to somewhat limited, thoughI
think you will find that his contribution to core Softpress projects
will be immense…

Please join me in welcoming him on board.
