[Pro] Auto Save

Freeway desperately needs an auto save feature! The program crashes often enough that I’ve been caught loosing several hours of work more times than I’d like to remember. Having just experienced another multi hour loss I needed to vent.
Awrhhhhhhhhhhh…!!!

There is (was?) an app called ForeverSave that came in two flavors which allowed you to set any app to auto-save at specified intervals. I know it has been used with FW. There are probably other options too.

Did you read the warning on the MAS? I suggest getting it directly from the dev site instead.

I still rather see this optional feature appear in a near future Freeway release …

I’ve been testing ForeverSave 2 and unfortunately it does not seem to work automatically with Freeway. Does anyone know of another option?

Of course the best would be if the option was built in!!

Command-s is built into the software user interface… it merely requires the
intelligence and will to use it.

Liberally applied doses work well-enough for me.

Well, there is no doubt there… but… with autosave being built to Apple apps one tends to quickly get used to not having to worry about using CMD+S constantly

It may be possible with a bit of AppleScript (Automator). Just a guess.

If you want versioning (beyond a simple Save function) then that will require a bit more work.

…with autosave being built to Apple apps

There are quite a few advantages built into the system software that I wish
Freeway took advantage of (file management being the least of those for
me). From what I understand, for Freeway to take advantage of that would
require a complete and utter rewrite of the software. I’m assured that to
do this requires an effort of unimaginable proportion… sort of a Manhattan
Project with an Apollo Program going on simultaneously. Softpress would
probably have to become two entities to do this-- maybe even creating a new
entity in the process.

Or not. My Magic 8-Ball says “Answer unclear, try again later”

Still being on Freeway 6 and by manually saving each time I reach reach a useful point (and admittedly by only using FW for site frameworks with content from php/mySQL), I’ve never really suffered from this. On the other hand, the amount of time I would have lost if there had been regular auto-saves on my frequent travels up blind alleys would have been considerable. Just a manual save whenever I feel I’ve actually achieved something in the direction I’m trying to go does it for me. That, and saving a suitably named copy at milestones.

As I understand it Apple’s vise-like grip on sandboxing is a major hurdle facing 3rd Party apps and the auto-save functionality. It’s likely that a lot of apps besides FW share the same problem.

Auto saving is not the answer IMHO - I dont really want to save something experimental and have to undo it if it doesn’t work out.

This is a discipline thing - you either are or you aren’t! Just dont be complacent.

It’s become a habit of me, constantly previewing and saving after being satisfied with the preview. Every single step … Cmd+S. Create a couple of new styles, colors, pages, whatever … immediately Cmd+S.

Rewrite Freeway …
… yeah, well, why not, it should be done in my humble opinion. It could probably be the best thing for it’s future development. Blocs.app was written within weeks by one guy, next to his other projects. 1 Or 2 dedicated pro’s could fire up XTools and build a new Freeway within months. The whole roadmap already is there. The reluctance doing so (even in the 7 years between FW5 and 6) is killing Freeway, which already is gasping for air.
