[Pro] Avoiding excessive duplication when uploading

I use Freeway Pro version 7.1 to upload my web pages and have accumulated loads of items in my site folder which are now obsolete. I should like an easy way to identify items out of date on either my local files or the remote, so I can delete those that are out of date and avoid the clutter. I have recently downloaded Fetch v5.7 and have been advised this is a better ftp application than using the one in my Freeway application. So what is the best way of cleaning things up? Avoid uploading duplications and items no longer current to the server. I think there is a File Synch feature which would be useful. Is this option possible on Freeway or Fetch?

Freeway automatically will tidy up files in your local site folder and on the server. Unless…

Have you created a brand new Freeway Project and you’ve left old stuff hanging around locally in the site folder and on the server then uploaded?

You could use your FTP app and clean out (delete anything in the public folder) files on the server. The same on your local folder. And re-upload afresh. Or just don’t worry about it.

Create a new Site Folder (in Finder) on your Mac then use File>Document Setup to choose that New Site Folder from under the Document Tab - about half way down.

When you next Publish your Site the New site folder will have only current files in it.

At this point I would clear all the old files off the server and FTP the New Site folder contents.

However you will get exactly the same results by using FW’s built in Upload facility after clearing old files off the server and from that point on FW will manage the files for you if you continue to use the built in Upload facility.

Be cautious about clearing the server to make sure you dont delete any files that belong up there ie system files and anything else you might have added to get 3rd party features working.

You really need to be sure about what you are doing.

Using FW means you are far less likely to make an a**e of it.
