[Pro] BackDraft 2

i have used backdraft 1.5 when freeway was not responsive and am curious to know that now freeway 7 is responsive is backdraft required or can freeway 7 do the job on its own.
i have downloaded the new version 2 am also running 7 pro i have also read celebs comments as to what it can do but as i am fairly new to this i thought i would ask the more experienced among you for your thoughts.
many thanks

Backdraft is a framework which is outstanding cool - a nearby set and forget - inserting modules (functional parts) and flavor them up to your designer’s goal. This is just because Caleb already did the hardest work for you:

Adjusting the appearance of each module at each breakpoint.

And there’s the gist:

You have to adjust things - actively - making decisions regarding your page-design and technical appearance on each breakpoint.

FW7 has the tools to make these decisions easier, but it can’t do it without the designer’s help.

Making pages responsive requires:

  1. An outline before you start
  2. The knowledge how to place things and why
  3. A minimum of understanding what responsive means and the technical “engine” behind

I hope it’s OK to quote Karen here (cause it is so true):

“… to go to a responsive inline layout you would pretty much be building a different type of framework and plugging your original data into it. It’s not so easy as moving a few things around or ticking some boxes. There is a learning curve and it is no longer the original visual layout at that point.”

So it’s your decision whether to go on with BD2 or to take the next step.

Cheers

Thomas

I don’t think I can put it any more aptly than Thomas did above. You can certainly create responsive websites in Freeway 7 without Backdraft – but it’s a lot more work, especially if you want the layout to be built using inflow (aka inline, box-model) construction.

I’ve used Backdraft in previous releases, new Backdraft 2.0 for use in Freeway 7 Pro is simply delightful. Combined with Freeway 7 Pro, Backdraft 2 is the faster way to get a great looking responsive website done. It feels like there is more control. more options and more feedback with BD2 and FWP7 as to how things will look. Sure, there’s plenty to learn as to customizing, as Thomas points out, but it’s a heck of a starting point to use Backdraft and it will save you countless hours (days) of figuring things out and as I said, help you produce great looking responsive websites quickly.
