[Pro] Backdraft and Moo slimbox

Hi,

I want to insert the Moo Slimbox action on an image, in a responsive website based the (wonderful) Backdraft template of Caleb.
Does anyone knows why this action isn’t working correctly?

Can you describe what does happen? Isn’t working correctly doesn’t give us much to go on. Can you use it on other sites? Try closing all document, create a new blank document, and see if it works as expected there.

The issue with the Action may be that it was written a long time ago, and may not work in Freeway 6 anyway. (The developer has disappeared from the Freeway community, too. Haven’t heard from “Weaver” for years.) There are other lightbox options that do work in Freeway 6, you may want to try one of those as a substitute.

Hi Walter,

If I copy the image with the action and paste it in a blank document the action works fine. If I use it in the Backdraft-template I see a (new) page with all the images. At the end of this page I see following massage:
It appears you have Javascript disabled.
Please enable for a richer browsing experience.

You may not have installed the Moo Actions in your copy of Freeway 6, if you were using it in Freeway 5.5 or lower previously. Freeway 6 does not share an Actions folder with previous versions.

Please read through the instructions that came with the Action, and locate your new Actions folder: ~/Library/Application Support/Freeway Pro/Actions. Previous versions of Freeway had a folder named ~/Library/Application Support/Freeway 5/Actions for that same purpose.

In Finder, in Lion and above, you need to hold down the Option key while choosing Go / Library from the main menu. (Library is a hidden menu option unless you have the Option key down.)

The issue with the Action may be that it was written a long time ago, and may not work in Freeway 6 anyway.

I would emphasise this point - development ceased a long time ago on this action - and anyway it wasn’t compatible with a lot of the FW base actions that use a different javascript library.

There are plenty of other ways to get the same effects.

Hi David,

I understand. Do you know a good alternative?

Best regards,
Bart

It depends on the kind of lightbox you want to launch. None of mine do what Slimbox did – namely open a lightbox with multiple images in it from a click on a single icon image. Showcase (bundled with Freeway) can build those lightboxes and link them up, too. My Actions are ScriptyLightbox, ScriptyLightbox2 and ScriptyLightbox3 (which is the only one for Freeway 6). Paul Dunning has the Spawn New Window Action (which will do an overlay effect in iPad-compatible mode). There’s also the venerable Target Show/Hide Image/Layer that has been with Freeway since version 2 (nearly 15 years ago).

Note: Bart communicated with me via email and the problem is that he is using Mootools on the same page as he is using WOW Slider (which uses jQuery). Therefor, scripty actions won’t work here either.

Aha. Well, that’s what happens with anything that extends the prototype (small p) and defines a $() function in JavaScript when jQuery is added to the same page. You can add the jQuery.noConflict() function right after jQuery loads, which will return the $() to its rightful owner. It is imperative that whatever add-on you install in jQuery also respect the noConflict() mode – not all do.

My answer would then to be not to have too many ‘effects’ on the same page.

If you have WOWSlider already do you really need a lightbox as well.

Thank you for your help.

David, you’re right, one effect on a page should be enough. If the client really wants more than one effect, I can put another WOW-slider.

@ Walter
What I really loved about Moo Slimbox are the great features. One: you mentioned “namely open a lightbox with multiple images in it from a click on a single icon image”. Two: the easy method to add link text (not only from a link image) and captions right in the action setup and even make one caption for all or one for each image. Three: The max pop up size entry for images. Great features. No longer use the action because of compatibility issues. You should make a Scriptylightbox4 action that includes those features. I’ll contribute $200 up front to get you started.

Hello…I’m trying to install slim box in Freeway Pro 6 and there is no Freeway Pro under user/Library/Application Support. Does this live somewhere else in my mac system?
Thanks

No. How did you install Freeway? Have you run it at least once since you installed it?

I’ve been using Freeway 6 for about a year. I recently installed the upgrade and it has been running fine.

That makes zero sense, then, unless you’ve been using it without any third-party Actions all that time. Try installing an Action – any Action – by dragging its icon over the Freeway icon in your Dock (while Freeway is running). See if the Freeway Pro / Actions folder magically appears to hold it.

Nope! I installed a new action and it shows up on my action item menu, but still no Freeway folder in Application Support. There is something called ProApps.

ProApps is for Aperture and Final Cut Pro, and that sort of thing. I would contact Softpress support, they may be able to guide you better. support(a)softpress.com is the address, although it’s probably pub-thirty in Oxford now.

maybe I’m wrong, but it is to find in “user → library” not in the “hard drive → library”.

The best to be found at finder “go to (am not sure about the proper translation)”, press alt-key to make library appear and choose library, then the known procedure path.

Think that this is since V6.

Cheers

I have to wholeheartily agree with cosjr’s comments about Moo Slimbox. I’ve never been able to find a suitable replacement with similar or better flexibility and ease of use (without coding). However, I’d like a more modern look (such as Fancybox), and the ability to rearrange the order of photos (using up-down move arrows). Also, Slimbox can become flakey if photo captions are long - perhaps a memory issue.

I too would help pay for the development of a version of Scriptylightbox that could replace and enhance the features of Slimbox!
