Is there a best photo size for image gallery apps like Fancybox and Showcase?

The reason I’m asking this question is I normally use an image size of 640 x 480 pixels for galleries. I recently purchased a Canon T3i Digital SLR, which, unbeknownst to me, takes photos that are 5184 x 3456 pixels.
When I scaled the images down in Lightroom 4, I realized that they were being proportionally scaled to 640 x 426.67. To keep things even, I need to scale the images to one of the following sizes:
- 600 x 400
- 750 x 500
- 800 x 600
