[Pro] Blog or Facebook?

I need to develop a solution so that my client can interact with their customers. I’m kinda torn between using a traditional blog or simply linking to my client’s Facebook page. What do you guys prefer and why?

I think it depends on what they want to accomplish. I think a lot of
companies still haven’t figured out the web or social media thing. Most are
still overly focused on product advertising and not truly providing an
interactive customer experience. So they end up getting it wrong and
turning people off.

Social media tends to be better for customer support, not so great for
marketing. Social users don’t want to see marketing… If and when they’re
ready to interact with a business through social media, it’s because they
have questions or needs that can be fulfilled through easy-access
communication. This is the part that most businesses are missing.

Company blogs which engage their customers at the lifestyle level also tend
to be more successful. I would do both – use Facebook to let customers
interact with the company and then have a company blog which acts like a
magazine – shaping the company and product experience in ways that give
customers stuff to talk about on FB.

Of course, it’s not all that simple… many clients I’ve had could barely put
two sentences together, let alone devise clever content. That’s when it’s
good to have the help of an outside marketing or pr firm to do the heavy
work.

And what about a Freeway website with Disqus comments and a Skype button? This way they can choose a public and a personal way to interact.
