[Pro] Bluehost shopping cart

Hi Everyone,

I am using Mals extra actions (the multi-price action especially) for a site I’m building. I just found out my client has a free shopping cart with her hosting company, bluehost.

I like Mals for the ease of integration into Freeway documents and I’ve never used another shopping cart. I am going to see if the Mals free cart will get my client what she needs. But if it doesn’t, does anyone have any experience using bluehost for their shopping cart?

I searched on bluehost’s knowledgebase articles and there were no results for freeway. Bummer.

Thanks!

does anyone have any experience using bluehost for their shopping cart?

What cart do they use?

It is unlikely to be their own - probably one of the many that come packaged with server offerings.

This was harder to answer than it should be. But from the looks of it, bluehost supports osCommerce, Agora, Cube, Zen and possibly OpenCart also.

I keep using Mals with FreeWay because of the availability of Actions, so I am reluctant to try another cart.

Thanks, David.

The question really is what is the cart required to do - how many items for sale, is the client going to manage it, is inventory tracking required etc etc.

Hi David,

Probably max 100 items, I am doing everything (the client is not managing it), inventory tracking is not required.

You can see a rough start to what I’m doing (currently with mals) at http://www.flowersongherbals.com/herbals.html

If you scroll to the bottom of that screen you will see what I’m doing with show/hide target layer and the mals multi-price action.

Hope that helps,
Doty

I think that I would have a new (Store) page for this because it is a bit lost down there.

I would also remove the repetitive section from the graphic - the bit that says Flowersong Herbals is located… which is the same in all of them and replace it with SEO friendly HTML text that is fixed. I would make all the descriptive text HTML too.

When you first come to the page you also see an empty space to the right of the Tinctures list - one of the show hides (or an information box) should be visible on page load so that the visitor knows there should be something in there.

All that is nothing to do with the cart of course and I think that with only 100 products there is absolutely no need to start introducing a 3rd party cart into the mix - especially if you are managing it and Mal’s would have no problem with that number of products.

Thanks for your feedback, David. I agree with you on many counts. The pdf was just there as a placeholder and was never intended to be permanent. Also, I’m waiting on a graphic to use for the blank area. Thanks for the confirmation that this is needed!

There will be products to buy on every page so I’m not sure about a separate store page. My client really didn’t want that. But I think your point about it being lost below the fold is well taken. I’m thinking about flipping the position of the products to purchase and the pic and paragraph that basically serves as an introduction now.

We are switching some things around on the server side and I can’t update the site this weekend. But I’d love your opinion next Tuesday or so after I have the ability to upload again.

Thanks for the great feedback. As far as the shopping cart goes, I’d love to just stay with Mals because it is what I know. I just wanted to do “due diligence” with the bluehost options since she’s already paid for those. Hopefully a free Mals account will meet her needs.

Thanks again.
