[Pro] CalendarView revisited

Hi Guys

Can you lot that have Windoze machines handy have a look at http://deltadzine.net/test/reservation.html

There are two CalendarView boxes on the form Arrival Date and Departure Date that are causing me problems with IE

In Exploder 7 on the top one of the 2 the date is not always selectable - now I know I have some extended on the field to colour it but I don’t think that should make a difference.

In Exploder 6 the Calendar pops up and appears to be behind the other items on the page and as a result not all the dates are selectable.

Please have a look and let me know your thoughts.

Thanks David

When you say “other items on the page” do you mean the other form
inputs? There’s a known problem with IE that it likes to draw form
elements above other content, even content with a much higher z-index
than the elements. It’s kind of like Flash in that regard. Most
lightbox implementations (and this date picker widget is a sort of
lightbox in this regard) use an iframe “shim” behind the floated
element to cover the other form elements. I just checked the source,
and there is no support for that in the current version of
CalendarView. If I get some tome this weekend I will try to add it in,
but no guarantees that it will be possible – or forthcoming.

The only way around this that I can think of is to design a clear
space where the calendar can pop up, but this sort of defeats the
purpose of the picker (which is to remain hidden until needed).

“other items on the page”

These being the dropdowns just beneath the form element - what appears to happen in IE6 is that the calendar pop-up shows through the gaps between the other elements. And you can only select the dates that you can ‘see’ through the gaps.

The IE7 issue is that the pop-up pops but the dates are not selectable, at least not every time and far more so on the Arrival Date than the Departure Date.

Okay, that definitely sounds like the problem. I’ll see if I can get the iframe shim thing in there.

Walter has revved the CalendarView action for me to try and overcome this IE problem - and so far it seems to have worked with the limited range of Windoze PCs and IE that I have tried.

If anyone else would like to have a look with a Windoze box and report back it would be much appreciated. The page in question is at http://www.deltadzine.net/reservation/reservation.html

Many thanks Walter and I hope that we can report a success and a general release.

Hmmm - Spoke too soon

When trying with a Vista box today and Exploder 7 the Calendars were appearing OK in front of the rest of the items but the left and right selectors to move on and back through the months and years were not bringing up their respective month/year calendars.

Hmmm. That’s not related to the code I added in any way. I wonder
what’s happening there… Could you post a link?

Aaaaah… Thanks for this thread. I had a client ‘complaining’ about a similar problem as mentioned in the top of this thread.
I didn’t think it was the CalendarView but just blamed their OS (I assume the right one to blame… Windows and IE…

So, is the last CalendarView updated on ActionForge?

Cheers,

Paul

There’s a test version that isn’t there yet, it’s meant to fix a
problem with form elements below the calendar bleeding through the
calendar in certain browsers (the ones with IE in their name). I’m not
sure it works yet, so I haven’t posted it for general consumption yet.

Yep, I had exactly the same thing. Thanks for identifying this! I’ll keep an eye on ActionForge!

But I am not exactly sure what version of Vista or Explorer because I have tried on a different PC this evening running home vista and 7 and it worked - go figure!
