[Pro] Can I "retrieve" a site from the host? Computer & backup were stolen.

My computer was stolen along with my backup. Is there any way to retrieve a live website from the host? I’ve installed freeway on my new computer and I’m praying I can somehow get the files back into freeway and don’t have to completely rebuild the website.

I’m very much a novice, and the site is very simple. Just image and text files.

Any help is much appreciated!
Carla

Simple answer is No.

But if your site is that simple then you should be able to rebuild it quickly in FW using the text/images copied from the server.

There is a SP knowledgebase article on the subject at http://www.softpress.com/kb/questions/40/Fast+Way+to+Recreate+a+Website

To further clarify, the actual Freeway document/files are not uploaded to your website - the program generates and “publishes” your design as web optimized code, so you can upload it.

If those docs/files are completely lost for whatever reason - then rebuilding is the only option if you want to continue to develop the site in Freeway.

All the existing HTML code and files are still on your server however. You could download those and work with the raw code in something like Dreamweaver or BlueGriffon - but not move them over into Freeway.

The actual Freeway Document is comparatively large to other website documents - however a great extra feature might actually upload and store an online backup copy on the server for just such emergencies - or collaborations. You could always manually do the same with Cyberduck or something if so inclined. Too late in this case… sorry.
