[Pro] Can not create rollover button inside html item

Hallo, I have tried the following because when I first created the rollover buttons - I then discovered that I could not position them within the HTML item without disturbing the html position. So i un-grouped everything, moved the buttons, and then lost the html item. When I re-did the html item with the buttons in their place, everything moved to the top left hand corner!?!?!

I created the buttons Outside the html item, then tried to position them inside. Well that was a complete donkeys balagan.

So please, how does one create rollover buttons within an HTML item? Or should I say, distribute them within the html item, you absolutely can not define measurements, because in the process of creating the buttons I need three components to make each one.

Getting a bit frustrated here at not finding “how tos” in the manual to be honest. We newcomers really do need some proper tutorials similar to lynda, this would not take away from the likes of Dan, it would not step into his niche/territory. darn it I have taught and this freeway is painful indeed. If I ever get through this? I will do lynda style tutorials.

There are two methods in the Rollover Action, only the first one gets mentioned much any more. The second method requires that you export your “over” image from Freeway or another application. This method does work on an online image with no trouble.

Draw or insert your first image. Apply the Rollover Action to it, and switch over to the Parameters tab in the Actions palette. Use the Mouseover picker to choose the second image (what you will see when the mouse is over the image). Preview or publish and test in a browser.

Ok Walter thankyou for such an easier and more friendly way to achieve what has taken me almost two hours of sheer hell to work out - I did in 45 seconds, well two minutes really - I tend to exagerate about a thousand times a day!

One thing though - I had to create both images/text in Photoshop CS3 separately. I noticed That I drew a graphics image in FW, typed text then imported per your instructions the rollover inside that same graphics box, Mmm that just replaces it, what an idiot I am. Anyway

Freeway can generate separate image states for you, all you need to do
is select the image and choose Item / Export. Make sure to add the
filename extension in the file you generate, to match the format
picker setting (probably GIF with text image button).

So your workflow would be this: Draw the base image box, put your type
in it and format it and all. Then change the background color to your
rollover style (if that was your rollover cue) and with the image
still selected, choose Item / Export. Call it something memorable,
like home_button_over.gif so you can find it again later. Then change
the background color of your button back to the original, and go
through the steps I outlined earlier to choose this new exported image
for your rollover option.

Wow, great, I will be experimenting nervously. thankyou. Si I really don’t have to create anything in Photoshop unless of course I will be doing something really complex. But great this saves even more time - so much more practical. thankyou

wow walter it works. A beautiful gold text on black, when rolled over it becomes the same gold text on black but subtly larger. the whole page is black so hope you can visualise.

really thankyou - I could never have worked this one out from all the written stuff.

one small benefit to having used the application since it was released
– this method was how the original 1.0 worked all the time. The new,
more visual method is an add-on around 2.0 if I recall correctly. In
good software engineering practice, they did not remove the original
method, since it is still useful in some layouts.

Actually, you could. I did, and I’m not that bright. Bright, but not
THAT bright. Don’t try to do it all at once. Take it easy. Read the
manual and when you come to a bit you don’t understand, ask yourself
what they could have meant. Cogitate. That bit about exporting images
for later importing into Freeway is all in the manual, and it’s a
terrific way to do stuff. You’d have got there if you hadn’t been so
busy not understanding

best wishes

Hi Paul. A good point, and one I will not disagree with you on. However, permit me please to add that I searched through the manual with varying search items and came up at a loss.

When it comes to learning new software one can never ever just read through a manual. one has to work at the software with a goal and use manuals to reference what you don’t know. Yhis is a very natural way to do things. I followed the tutorials and the videos three times. they are good starters but they tell you what to do, not the concept behind it with all its knooks and crannies.

Kind regards
chris
