[Pro] Cannot get to 'Test' folder

Hi chaps, I thought I’d done this correctly.

I want a ‘test’ folder on my clients website, he won’t be able to see it (if I don’t tell him it’s there), nor will anyone else.

I’d like to see it though but when I go to Safari I get ‘Cannot connect’ - anyone able to tell me what I’ve done wrong please ?

Hope you’re enjoying the weekend … Roger

What is that link supposed to show us Roger as i get a 404

The easiest way is to create an empty subfolder called test in your clients FW doc and then upload.

Now in your New FW doc that will contain all these test files you make the upload path yourclientssite.com/test

Sorry Dave - I must have screwed up the link somehow … here it is again:

That looks fine - but as I suggested I would only have the empty sub folder in his FW doc and have a totally separate FW doc with the test pages in it. Set to upload into the test folder.

That way you aren’t going to screw up his main site if something goes wrong.

In what respect can you not access the test folder? Is the first page in it an index page (index.html or index.php) and is your server configured to display the index page if you use the URL hissite.com/test ?

Roger,

You can’t put the ftp address into Safari, which is what your picture shows; use http://www. as Dave suggested.

Lest resort if you can’t figure out the correct URL.

  1. Open your hosting control panel for that site
  2. Using the “File Manager” (browser based FTP client)
  3. Navigate to the file in your test folder you want to view in a browser
  4. Highlight it and click the “world” button and it will open in a new window.

I didn’t see his bottom picture which shows the Safari Error

Is the proper address not http://www.keithbryantjewellery.co.uk/test - however i am not sure that there is an index.html file in there.

There’s a contact.html file

Try this link Roger

As ever I’m stunned by the helpful response from one and all … thank you. Well I think it was down to there being no index page, not sure how that happened but I have been fiddling.

To get to the point of the post really, I have used Fway for a while and used to be able to make a website that ‘on-line’ matched the Freeway document, here are some screen shots that illustrate what I mean:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12879319/fway_example.jpg

So here’s the jewellery site:

http://www.keithbryantjewellery.co.uk/test/contact.html

and the ‘View’ site:

http://www.christchurchview.co.uk

As you can see from the screen grab the line spacing is quite accurate on the ‘Christchurch View’ site (on-line) but not on the jewels on-line one, indeed the menu on jewels overlaps the text online but is clear in the fway doc. … has freeway changed between 6 and 7 and have I missed something … I have tried really hard to compare the 2 fway docs to spot an error but to no avail. I’m finding it too trial and error getting the layout to look good !

I WILL rebuild this site to be responsive but want to get something up there for the moment.

Raining cats and dogs here in Christchurch so plenty of time to play web-builder instead of weeding the allotment …
