Hi there, I am new to all this but learning fast. I want to apply the following code (taken from amazon associates site) to get a floating preview box - problem is I don’t know how to insert it into the page and get it working. Please help. I have successfully put in picture links earlier on the page by using markup but getting the following to work beats me …
er - 0 replies - have I done something wrong? I am an author, trying to get links to work. I know I know very little about html but it is very frustrating to not be able to insert script properly. Out of my depth really.
Are you not using Freeway 5.5? It comes bundled with an Amazon Associates Action that will do all the hard work for you.

Hi - I am using it but that seems to just give a box on the page. Amazon’s preview script (which I got from their own associates page) allows a window to pop up and float where the rollover was clicked (I am using show/hide so that when a pic is clicked the preview pane would pop up). I guess I am wanting something extra to the associates action or am I missing something?
You can see how it works on this authors page. I just wanted something similar.
In the dialog that appears select "Before " (note the slash before body)
Paste in the code from Amazon
All your links to Amazon products either created manually using markup items or the Amazon Associates Action will have the preview.
Hope this helps.

Ta - actually I tried that earlier having scoured other threads for similar things when people want to get stuff in before the end of the text.
Tried your way again and all that happened/s is that I see just the graphic of the book that links me to amazon and not the preview pane. Bit of a pain really. Seems that the preview script doesn’t register. Might have to accept it’s a simple click on a graphic …
You can do this from text links using the supplied Amazon Associates Actions.
Try Insert > Action Item… > Text Link: Amazon Associates
This will place an Amazon Associates text link on your page. Add your Associates ID, the product ASIN or ISBN number and make sure the ‘Add product previews script (upload to preview)’ option is selected. Now when you preview the page online and hover over the link the preview panel should appear. This one script should also activate previews on your image based Amazon links as well.
Regards,
Tim.

I did this by using the Action as Tim suggested, and then manually adding the preview script in the way I suggested.

thanks guys - unbelievably it still is not working and I am following your advice to the letter. I have checked I have javascript enabled. Have wiped cache etc but no idea what I’m doing wrong. Really frustrating. Is there anyway I can see the code that made your page Joe? Then I could use a text prog as a browser and see what my page is playing at … stumped.

Hi Dave - I am currently working this up offline after bailing out from a hosting company. I just have my .com domain name and am trying to create a site to go with it- working on a 24 inch imac at home, testing stuff out on the safari/firefox browser (which s’pose is offline). I aim to get a host and get my site up soon - wanted to get it looking good beforehand. Is that the problem? Also, affiliates at amazon don’t accept offline sites so maybe there’s that too? Sorry I am so woolly here. Probably explains why I can see Joe’s example because it is on the net so to speak … Am happy to try again and add links etc once I have my site online - but didn’t like the idea of doing that.
cheers

But I did try it on one of my Client’s sites and could only get the preview when I selected the US Amazon Store (Default setting). Wouldn’t work with the UK one selected.
So maybe there is a problem in there anyway - but no matter which one you select you aren’t going to get a preview locally!
Ah yes, the page needs to be online for the preview panel to work properly.

The top Link in the 1st Para “Amazon. Buy it now” has the associates link using the US store - and the preview works.
In the next para “Katy Coburn and the Silver Egg” also has the associates link but to the UK store - and preview doesn’t work. Diffirent ISBNs but the rest is the same apart from the choice of UK or US store.

That explains it all then Dave & Joe. Thanks. I should have known that working locally wont get things looking as they should! @ dave - have checked out your site & blog & prices - looks good - when I am ready I will be heading your way
