[Pro] Carousel Action Update-NEED HELP !!!

I had been designing carousels with carousel tab actions on a carousel panel, and with buttons on the page for previous and next.

Now, with the new carousel action, when I try to put a tab on a panel of a carousel, panels in the carousel disappear, and a host of other things happen.

Does anyone know what could be going on? ON the old carousel action, I was free to put carousel tabs on carousel panes and all worked fine.

I’m in a bind with a client, so if anyone could help, it would be much appreciated.

Tabs still work. You just need to read the new instructions and look at previous posts discussing this topic.

The new action is much easier to use once you get the hang of it. The main difference is you don’t need to group panes, tabs like in the past.

One thing that works for me is to create a new page and make a basic version of the new action and understand how it works. Then go back and modify the original.

Another thing. You might have to blow away all the carousel actions on your page, ungroup, and rebuild.

Good luck.

George,

Thanks for the reply, but…here’s what I am saying.

The tabs will not work, when I put them on the panes of the carousel. Before, I could put a tab action on a carousel pane, and it worked. Now, if I put the tab on a graphic item on a panel page, it causes the panes to go “blank”. When I remove the action from the item on the panel, the panel comes back.

I can get the carousel working…buttons and tabs, as long as I don’t put a tab item on a pane of the carousel. That…is my problem.

Thanks

Sam

I’ve just tested this quickly, and I am able to make a set of tabs on
each pane that correctly trigger the effect. The tabs must be images
drawn as layers, so if you want them to stick on each pane of the
effect and move when the pane animates to its new position, you need
to either draw them as child elements of each pane or use the Page
view of the Site pane to drag them into that relationship.

Note that the new version of the Action is not a drop-in replacement
for the first iteration, you will have to follow the new instructions
for creating your panes and controls and how to apply the Actions to
each element.

Walt,

I do appreciate you taking time to help me with the carousel issue.

On the old carousel action, I was able to make panels of different sizes, and put a link back to the front panel of the carousel…actually on the pane.
ck out this link and how I am using the old carousel action:

http://www.wkvi.com/august5,2009.html

This is how I want to use the new action. But, when I try to use “BACK TO HEADLINES” link on a carousel pane, the carousel disappears. I had to take out the new carousel action and put the old one back in, in order for it to function properly.

Thanks for checking and helping me out with this.

Rich,

You can certainly do this with the new action, I’ve got it all over my site.

Be sure to ungroup everything and apply the new action according to the new instructions.

George,

Here’s what I have:

1 panel-carousel action applied
7 panels-carousel pane action applied, set to go to main carousel.

I have text on the panes, at the end of text in the the pane I choose “graphic item” from the insert menu. I put some text in this graphic and apply the carousel tab to go back to the front page of the carousel.

When I preview in browser, the text on the panel disappears, the graphic item disappears and the pane that the graphic item references also disappears from the stack. I can cycle through the other items with the carousel buttons I have applied that action to, but the sites with the graphic disappears.

I have tried this repeated times and it causes text to disappear.

Any ideas?

I just checked how I have it configured and it sounds like you are doing things correctly. I do it slightly different. I did not insert a graphic item at the end of text. All of my text are in individual html boxes with the pane. The graphic item that the Carousel Tab action is applied is also it’s own box.

I don’t know if that has anything to do with it however.

Did you delete the Tab action from all of the graphic items after upgrading? I have had to do that before and sometimes when I added new panes I had to blow all the Tab actions away and re-apply.

The only other thing I can think of is something in your layers is blocking you from seeing things. Check that your background colors are correct. I set all of my panes to white so everything on the pane will block those beneath it.

I just spent half the day trying to figure out why my radio buttons were working like checkboxes. Of course it was something really easy. I suspect it is the same thing with your issue. Perhaps you need to walk away from it and come at it another time.

Good luck.

George,

Thanks.

Here’s how I am setting the pane.

At the top of the pane I have inserted a graphic from the insert menu. I put text in this box.

I then put text on the “pane” itself. I may insert another graphic in the text for a picture or logo. At the bottom of the pane after the text I insert another graphic for the TAB.

Here is what it is doing: The contents from that pane is being sent to the pane that I tab link to with the graphic at the bottom of the pane. This means that the linked to pane has the text from itself and the text from where I put the tab.

I am only testing one pane at a time, and this is what I have gotten so far. Whatever I set the tab to at the bottom of the pane, the text jumps to that pane. Wierd.

You can see what I am trying to achieve by going here and seeing the original carousel action in operation:

www.wkvi.com. You’ll see it on front page and on all the news archive pages.

Much obliged for the help.

Rich,

I don’t know how else to help. It sounds like everything should work, although you’re starting to lose me with the last post.

Unless I can see your freeway document, I don’t believe there is anything else I can do.

Sorry.

George,

I’d be glad to send you a scaled-down version of my doc so that you can see first hand what it is doing on the carousel.

I can’t figure it out. As soon as I apply a ‘tab’ action to an item on the pane, it empties the pane of the content and moves it to the page where the tab was pointed to.

I am at a loss.

Please help.

George.

I have been going through your above instructions and I built a new carousel from scratch.

I did one thing different in this new construction than I had done before. Before, I built an html panel, then actually put text on that panel. When I put the tabs on inserted graphics, it moved the text from panel to panel.

This time, I built the main panel, and added graphic items to this panel as text and graphic links.

Now, all worked just fine. But, I have this as an issue: I am using the carousel for a daily ‘newspaper’ for a radio station here in Northern Indiana. Each day, the amount of stories change. More or less. What I try to do and tried to do with the old carousel…is if I need a new panel for an additional news panel, I duplicate the carousel…and all of the items, of course, duplicate with it. With the old carousel, this would cause the actions to come up with all kinds java script errors when trying to publish the site. I tried with the old carousel, to remove the actions, re-apply and it still produced the java script error. No matter what I did to the carousel, removing all actions from all panels, re-apply and re-publish and it still produced the java script error.

With the new carousel action (thank goodness) I can duplicate panels, remove the actions, re-apply, re-assign the carousel tabs and now all is fine. I can delete panels, add panels, add actions, re-apply actions and it all works quite well. I"M SO RELIEVED…I have stressed for weeks now about this carousel not working. Now it works and I can move on.

you can view the carousel and check the archives for the 19th, 18th, to see the full carousel…or the weekend edition for a scaled down panel layout.

Thanks for your willingness to assist me.
Next, I’m going to tackle the lightbox action for photo galleries and/or fancy zoom (from Cabel) and I want to learn to sort through where to insert the added code. UGH…I’m tired just thinking about it !!

Thanks again.

Rich

Well, n
