with the help of a couple of kind members of this forum i learned 2 or 3 ways to make slide shows.
but how could i create one in which you would change slides by just clicking on the image in sight?
i am not talking about a slimbox kind of slide show. all i want to happen is for the image to change on clicking. how is it possible?

i have just visited the site you suggested and bingo! the effect i want is to be found in the Intermediate Demos (Part 2): the ones at the top, called Click Transitions - prev and next. thanks!

Glad the videos are helping out. That JQuery screencast and the site it uses the information from can be used to create a whole handful of effects you simply don’t get with the Carousel action.
Sure it’s more work, but you produce more unique results.

i have just watched the jquery video twice. it is great, as usual, but i am not able to transfer what i learned there to get other effects.
i tried hard to follow a similar path to create the slide show whose demo is just beside the one dan explains in the video to no avail. for one thing, the page source refers to all the effects on that page and that alone got me lost. watching dan explain and do everything makes it look easy but in fact all that only makes total sense to people with code writing abilities.
to people like me there is always something on the way that we do not understand and that prevents the effect from happening. it is like when you ask for directions on the street: there is always a little detail missing that seems insignificant to the one giving you the instructions but that makes you end up miles away from where you wanted to go.
the difficulty in dealing with that small amount of code reminded me of something: are we not using freeway in order not to get involved in writing code?
how come there is no action for doing something which looks much easier than other effects made possible by other actions?
