I need to put a map on a page in my site that will ultimately take users to unique information depending on where they click on the map. I want that information to appear over the map on the same page, if possible.
I created the following page with Transition FX, which works wonderfully in FireFox and Safari, but it is broken in all versions of IE (6,7,8):
http://www.kiramek.com/japanese/products/sciborg/dealers.html
If you open that page in Safari, you will see that this is a map of Japan with various sections of the country named. Most of those names are dimmed (and not clickable) because those are sections of the country I don’t have info to link to yet. So as you can see, I’ve got only 3 clickable sections on that map. When you click one of those 3 sections, you will then see a colored rectangle appear and clicking again will take it away. I made one of them a rollover + Transition FX, while the other two simply have the Transition FX action applied to them.
Again, this works fine in Safari and FF but not in IE. In IE those colored rectangles are never hidden and they appear immediately when you load the page. Even so, I absolutely have to get my map page to work in all flavors of IE because 75% of the people looking at this map are Windows users who cannot separate their hearts from Redmond.
I am posting this here on FreewayTalk to gather ideas on how best to accomplish this map task. Ultimately, those colored boxes will be light gray boxes filled with dealer name and address information, possibly with clickable website and email links.
Flash would be nifty but I haven’t the faintest idea how to use it, and I am not interested in forcing my users to get the required plugin either. So accomplishing what I want in a “normal Freeway manner” is desired here.
Ideally, I want users to click on a city name like Osaka and then have that block highlight in some way (like a rollover). Then when they click, it will present a dealer list of names, addresses, and URLs on that same page. Then they click on the box to make it vanish.
I look forward to your thoughts and advice.
Thank you,
