[Pro] Client Portfolio

I really like how this portfolio was done. http://www.sandersonstewart.com/Portfolio.htm

Not only is it well-designed, but it’s very functional and maximizes visual space. How can I do something similar with Freeway Pro? What specific Actions will I need? Be sure to drill down through the portfolio so you get a better feel for the interface.

Crap, I just realized that much of the portfolio portion of the website above was done in Flash—something I don’t know very much about. Can I still do something similar without using Flash?

I do not know if I am missing something here but can not see why they have chosen Flash for a simple slide show.?

Carousel with a ‘effect duration’ setting set to zero would do this. Or check out the possibilities with the rollover action? ( Using Freeway 2011 guide page 99)

Mind you I suppose that a rollover within a roll over could be challenging , or a carousel within a rollover.Or rollover within a carousel? I am sure someone must have done this.

So which option should I attempt, rollovers within a Carousel or vice versa?

I looked at this again with no progress. I am given hope by what walter wrote On 21 Nov 2010, 3:03 pm,

“If you want to have rollovers in a Carousel pane, then I recommend that you first draw an HTML box /as/ the pane, and add your rollover image elements as /children/ of that pane. (Click once on the pane so it’s selected, then use the Graphic Box tool to draw your initial graphic directly over the pane — entirely within its bounds. You’ll know you’re doing it right when the outer edges of the pane take on an electric blue glow, indicating that it is the parent element.)”

I will continue to mess around with it out of curiosity, or until some one else pitches in and tells me it is possible /notpossible. Meanwhile have a search through these threads - someone may have tried already.

Thanks Richard. I appreciate your help. I’ve been giving this some thought too and for me it all comes down to functionality. Here’s the task I’m faced with.

Originally, my client requested that I feature five of his recent projects to show off the work his company does. When I showed him the new design, which included a relatively simple Showcase slide show, he liked it so much that he decided he wanted to add another five projects and the option of adding more at a later date. The original concept simply had a CSS pulldown menu with the original five projects.

Now, in addition to growing his portfolio from 5 to 10 projects, with each project featuring 4-8 slides, I have to figure out how to organize all of this to accommodate his current and future needs, and in such a way that it’s easy to implement and maintain.

While I absolutely love Carousel, to me, it doesn’t seem as easy to maintain as Showcase. At this point, I’m thinking of two options. The first simply uses an HTML page for each project, and embeds either a Showcase slideshow or Carousel. The second option uses a Carousel for each category of projects and embeds a Showcase slideshow.

Here’s what I’m think in terms of the design hierarchy.

  1. Category (Environmental, Commercial, Transportation, etc. I could still use a CSS drop down menu for the category since the most I think we’ll have is 8—a little long perhaps but still doable)
  2. Specific Projects (1-4 for each category, at present)
  3. Images (4-8 slides)

I was also thinking about adding some detail text to number 3. If that’s the case a Carousel would definitely work best for that. Do you see any issue with either option? Walter, please chime in as well as I value your opinion.

Thanks!

It’s very possible I’m over-thinking this too, probably because of a case of design envy. LOL

You can put target show hide layer within a carousel/
http://www.richard-lowther.com/carousel-test/carousel+tshl.html
which begins to mimic the site you looked at - I think.

The carousel is set to zero so no glide
