[Pro] CMS Question

i have looked through several of the free / low cost cms systems available …

i haven’t found any that as far as i can tell allow you to create an editable block on a page and then create a post and then another post etc …

and then be able to list and retain all those posts in a database (like wordpress does with mysql)

most of them are flat files that don’t retain any posts

i assume expression engine will do this but looks a lot more complex (or am i wrong, can you simply create a block on a page of html that can used for blog posts ?

can anyone point me to a simple cms system that uses a database to retain posts that can be listed and searched etc ?

In joomla, (my current favorite cms) you use a blog extension -there
are many, but I like joomlabamboo’s microblog and superblogger from
joomlaworks. Superblogger has the capability to also send the same
post to facebook, twitter and other social network sites if you wish.

You can mess around with the ExpressionEngine Core version and see how easy it is to use. The learning curve for EE is much easier than people think.

You can submit entries and then list them like on an index page and then have a user click the title to load a single entry page that shows the selected post or you could have them like Blogger where it lists the title and entry on an index page with the option to link to an individual entry page, say for comments or something.

dan
right thanks
since i want something super simple
i also see there is a way to include just a wordpress post (w/o the theme or anything just the post) on a webpage and i am playing around with that as well

i did download ee and am playing around with it
it looks way overpowered for my needs

wish i could find the simplest cms with a database function

maybe wordpress incorporated onto a webpage will be it

might be worth a look. It’s deceptively powerful yet
lightweight and uses MySQL. The devs are very responsive and friendly
so ask them if what you need is possible with Perch.

All and all these are good suggestions to use as alternatives to ExpressionEngine however it would come down to what you’re looking to do on your site and from the OP, these options provide your ‘content blocks’ you were going for.

I personally feel that having too much is a good thing because you’ll never know when you’re going to need to do something these management systems simply can’t.

I also prefer some extra features as a way to help future-proof the
design but it’s a balancing act of, “When is it too much?”. In cases
where simplicity reigns supreme those extra features are a tough sell
when the client perceives it as unnecessary complexity and doesn’t
have or is unable to see a potential need for for them.

dan…right
it’s a tough call

ee requires more learning, on the other hand there is a lot of support stuff available to help you learn
whereas pulse and perch, especially pulse, are simple to get started

perch is about $50 whereas a personal license for ee is $100 so ee would probably be a better investment in the long run

all i really want to do is have the one or two most recent blog posts on the front page of a website built with freeway, and the ability to create a list of the titles of recent posts in a menu that opens

it looks like i can also do this by just putting wordpress in a subfolder and then using some code to display posts on the front page of a website

i could also just build the website in wordpress as well …

i am using artisteer from artisteer.com which i recommend …for $50 you get a pretty robust wordpress building engine …

anyway thanks all …

looking and trying different options
