[Pro] colours of the buttons

Look at the buttons on my website. Is it possible that the the red colour of the button stays red when you don’t change page even when you hoover above other buttons and that the button only changes colour PERMANENTLY once you click on the button. At the moment when you hoover over another button without clicking that button becomes red but you are still on the same page. This is confusing for the visitor to see an activated button from the wrong page. Try is you see what I mean ? is there a solution ?

Each button consist of 3 layers, a blak, a red and a transparent with tekst.

What I want is that :

1.) the button of a selected page is red
2.) the buton of the selected page stays red even if you hoover over other buttons but those buttons should also become red during hoovering
3. when you stop hoovering only 1 button is red, the one of the selected page
4. ) once you click on a button it becomes red and the previous selected button becomes black again

Hope you understand what I mean. Now how to achieve this if possible ???

It depends on what that button does. If it is navigation from page to page, then this is easy – just remove the entire Rollover effect from the button that corresponds to the current page. Create a different (not red, but not black) color button for the “you are here” effect, and don’t have any rollover behavior (or even a link) on that button.

But if you are doing something with Target Show/Hide and its friends, then it’s more complex to do what you want, especially with the way that Actions attach to individual elements and don’t communicate between one another. In that case, I would do something that appears more complex (and far less WYSIWYG) than the Actions at the start, but ends up giving you way more flexibility and production speed at the tail end. Let me know if you’re curious about that approach and I’ll cobble an example together for you.

Hi Walter,

I am not sure you understand my question. If you look at my site and you just hoover over the buttons they change colour from black to red. When you click on any button and move your cursor 1 px it becomes red and stays red after you remove the cursor from the button (slack). However if you after that click move the cursor to any other button without clicking the button last hoovered becomes red despite the fact that the page did not change. So the button of the present site became black and I want that the button stays red even if you hoover over other buttons which should become red as long as you hoover them. Maybe it is not possible what I want.

The staying red part is coming from the parameters section of the Action interface, which is set to Restore: Sticky. If all you want is to keep this effect from happening, you can change this picker to read Yes instead. I thought you were talking about how the current navigation element is shown in a different style from all the others, as a way-finding aid for the visitor. You Are Here, in other words.

Look at this page, for example: Mac - Apple Mouse over the other options in the navigation bar, and then click on one of them to see what I mean.

That (apple page navigation) )is exactly what I want with my buttons  How can I do this  Yes I put them on sticky but look at my site what happens when you clicked a button and than hoover over another button. The button of the present page becomes black again and I want it to stay red unless I click on another button.

The parameter setting of the “action” rollover a the moment is :

items

sticky

indigo
no

To get exactly the look of the Apple site, remove the Sticky setting (change it back to the default of Yes). Then, on each page in your site, locate the one button that refers to the current page, and remove the Rollover Action and the link from it altogether. If the normal color is on the top of the stack, delete that as well, leaving only the red button image behind. (If you really want to create the Apple Store look, then make a third color for your “Here” buttons. These are no longer linked, because they don’t go anywhere (a link to the current page from the current page makes zero sense.)

Hi Walter,

You are the man !!! It works now and it seems so obvious now that i feel like a fool that i did not think of it myself to do it the way you suggested. But than again I am not a website engineer at all nor a software man.
