I have created a number of small sites for small business for clients using Freeway Pro, all of which were keen to remove anything from their sites as a result of the EU cookie directive that might constitute a risk. I have therefore removed Google Analytics, embedded maps, YouTube videos, social media icons and the like where appropriate. However, I am confused, having conducted an audit of my sites using the Attacat Cookie Audit Tool, every site whether they are using a PHP contact form or not comes back as having 1 unidentifiable cookie, probably a session cookie. Does anyone know what this is - is it there just by virtue of using Freeway as the Generator? Many thanks.
"The law - the result of an EU directive regarding online privacy - requires websites to get consent before dropping cookies and other tracking technologies onto users’ computers. It came into law last year, but the ICO gave websites a year’s grace before enforcement started.
“However, a day before enforcement was due to start, the ICO revealed it would consider “implied consent” to be good enough - meaning sites can simply tell users that by continuing to use the site, cookies will be used.”

Probably a session cookie. Sugar and spice mostly but in the hands of SPECTRE, who knows - discuss with your developer.
I’m keen to know what this cookie could be because I just have no idea.

Paul, thank you - I’ve been keeping up to date on this and I appreciate at this stage enforcement may have been watered down. I do think I owe it to my clients though to be able to explain to them what cookies they have and what they are used for. By the same token they want to offer an open explanation in their privacy policies to their users.

If you look at the installed cookies in Chrome you’ll see that this session cookie was set by attacat themselves.
Try this;
Click on the spanner icon in the Chrome toolbar
Select Settings
Click Show Advanced Settings
Under Privacy click the Content settings button
In the cookies section click on the All cookies and site data button
This should open up a view that shows the cookies for the site. Amongst these you should be able to see ‘cookie.attacat.co.uk’. I suspect this is the session cookie their tool is warning you about which, IMHO, is somewhat over zealous.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Tim.

Thank you so much Tim. I think I was starting to wonder this myself having just tried a browser view cookies extension which showed no cookies. I certainly agree with your last statement! Thanks Tim for and Joe for all your help on this!
I’m sorry this is a bug in our tool that we are working on fixing at the moment. As Tim rightly points out it is coming from our site and it got missed in testing as it didn’t appear in other reports. Sorry to have cost you time.
