[Pro] Cookies Pop Up - UK use

Hi All

What is the general consensus on using these! I mean in UK with European law etc. Personally I don’t like them but if is puts some minds at rest so be it.

I came across this free, simple and plain widget that seems to work well on responsive Freeway pages and offers a link to a page I can set up for the Cookie text blurb bit.

Any thoughts much appreciated or if link is of any use to anyone.

To paraphrase Zoolander it’s a really, really, really ridiculously stupid law and I don’t think these cookie pop ups have put anybody’s mind at ease. They have simply made the internet more of a pain to use.

I forget where now but I saw some stats a while back that said there had only been about 5 complaints in the entire year about cookie usage on sites, so unless you are running a site like like BT or British Gas I really wouldn’t go messing it up with these silly popups. This site has been pretty openly flouting the law now for 3 years and nothing has happened http://nocookielaw.com

On a site I am building at the moment I have created a privacy and cookies page that can be reached by a link in the footer of every page. If Amazon and Apple etc doesn’t bother with the silly cookie pop ups I don’t see why I should have to ruin my business either.

Hi Ashley

Thanks for your feedback. I totally agree with you! And Yep! I’m not gonna stress over daft pop ups! BTW I love your clean and crisp Colour Management Pro site! Wish you the best with it!

All the best

I did quite a bit of research on the whole cookie nonsense first in 2009 when it came out and then more recently. Apparently there are plans for some daft new extension of the law to make it even more onerous but as ever it’s all caught in technicalities and somehow won’t affect Apple, Google, Facebook, eBay, PayPal or Amazon…

The colour management site is almost finished but I’ve been slowly working on it for ages, making endless adjustments both large and small. Perhaps the most shocking point is that never a day goes by when I don’t find some small area that can be improved. Very few people have seen the site so far, so it’s nice to have some positive feedback. It’s probably sacrilege to say it around here but I’m using Rapidweaver.

Now I have just three weeks left to finish the final sections of the book and put it on sale. It has taken three years of work.

Cheers

Ashley
