I very often use Illustrator to create graphics for use in my designs but it usually involves creating background images or design elements which can be imported into freeway in a number of ways.

The “page” and header are all one image created in Illustrator and set as the background image on the master page of the site. If you do create background images make sure they are not too large as this may slow up the loading of each page. A common way to acheive small file sizes (and therefore faster load times) is to create an image 2px wide for example and set Freeway to tile that image to create a full background.
The shadowed line under the main nav bar at the top is an image (again created in Illustrator) and placed in a div in Freeway.
