I am not sure if I correctly understand concept of “master page” but manual says the following: “Any changes you make to a master page automatically affect all the pages using that master.”
My task seems to be very simple. I want to make changes in my CSS menu and propagate them on all pages using particular master page. Unfortunately, it seems that it is not working. What should I do to solve my issue?
Your CSS Menu should be built on a Master page (and edited there) - then any pages that are based on that Master will reflect any changes made on the Master.
I am sure there is a Tutorial on using Master pages on the Softpress site or on iTunes
but the problem is that I was doing exactly what you said and changes made on master menu were not visible on corresponding page - that is why I wrote this post. It was like that:
I created page basing on existing master.
after changes and alterations I decided to use new page as new master for next set of pages
master was created and I reassigned new master for the page from which I created this master
I made changes on menu (master) and they were not visible on the page in question
then I did some tests …
and for new created pages from this master changes in menu are working. It means that changes reflect to all pages excluding page from which master was created. Very strange

There are some cases where Master Pages do not propagate changes to child
pages. In another thread, someone had recalled Tim Plumb’s Simple Include
actions – which I’ve wondered might be an interesting way to approach a
build-once use-many item like a menu.

The other thing that you have to remember is that for the Master/Child relationship to work you have to ensure that the item (based on the Master that appears on the child) has the correct settings ie ‘Use Master Content’ and/or ‘Use Master Settings’
This is interesting. One of big advantages of the Action is use of the same contents not only on several pages but on several pages based on different Master.
Thanks

Yes - but you cannot have a Master page based on a Master page.
I certainly use ‘Create Simple Include Pro’ in conjunction with ‘Use Simple Include Pro’ to do this.
In this way the Menu has ‘Create Simple Include Pro’ applied to it and on the page where the Menu is to appear you use an instance of ‘Use Simple Include Pro’

David,
Is this true if you are creating a site using the inline/box model construction?
Unfortunately, I don’t see such options on my Item General panel

Now you bring up a contentious issue.
My answer is no, not reliably. Room for improvement for this in FW6
If Master/Child relationship is critical for you when building an inline construction then tread warily. I would try and avoid relying on it by using other methods.
Then that suggests that menu1 is not a child of ORTTRAmain
You may need to delete the items on the index.html page that appear on the Master and Page>Reapply Master.
This happens if you have edited an item on a child page and have broken the Master/Child link. It needs to be re-established by reapplying your Master.
I’ve been using the latest version of FreewayPro for a couple of days (replacing iWeb) and have encountered the inconsistent updating of master items on child pages. E.g., just created a new page, both “User master” checked for all items that have them, no update of footer text when the master page is changed.
Found a simple workaround. Select “Show Items” from the “Extra Site Options” menu in the lower left corner of the screen – reveals each page’s component objects. Then select the applicable child page’s “Container” object. In its properties box uncheck both the “Use Master…” checkboxes and then reapply the check mark. The page’s master objects are updated. I’ve successfully done it for text and CSS menus. You’ll have to do this for each problem page.
The Page menu’s “Reapply Master” option creates a new container on your page – duplicates! Dealing with that is very time-consuming.

Reapply Master should be used sparingly as it will add ALL content that is on the Master to the Child - causing, as you have noted, duplicates.
They way to deal with this is to select all the content on the Child that originated on the Master and cut it to the Pasteboard before Reapplying the Master.
That way you still have it and you can paste it into a blank page if you make a mistake.
Worth noting that careful naming of ALL your items will help you identify if they are based on a Master item or not.
Thanks for the response. Your cutting/pasting/Reapply Master method does work, although on my pages with a complex master it is easier to cut local material, delete master elements and paste back in the local material. Note that the result has “Using Master …” off. So one has to remember to turn those settings back on.
But my checkbox off/on technique is easier (assuming it works for all object types which I have not verified). I can do it for dozens of pages while watching television. And I don’t have to deal with identifying localized master components (your naming convention suggestion is a good idea).
Just realized I need to clarify my two prior comments. I am using Freeway Pro with the CSS button turned on. So all this stuff about “Container” applies only to CSS. If you are working in Table Layout mode (CSS button off in Freeway Pro, or using the non-Pro Freeway), my duplicate containers comments do not apply.
